This isn't even all that good a deal too. The 980 Pro was just on sale for 10 dollars more for the same capacity than this and it's a leaps and bounds better drive
980 Pro fro $90 was short-lived and hard to replicate, even harder now for anyone without a time machine.

I can play pretty much any game on my 10700 + 3080ti … so I'd say just build it and enjoy rather than constantly be chasing the latest/greatest.
I go many years not upgrading, though, so I just hate to build 2 generations behind in cpu. Then for gpu I have 4070 ti. probably should have just kept and built with the 3080 12g, but the 4070 ti is supposedly quieter. i didn't know in some ways the 3080 is better, though...

I have this drive and it is wonderful. I would recommend it highly.

Remember if your computer/laptop does not support 4.0 then you won't be able to get the 4.0 speeds which are must faster, even if you have a 4.0 drive (for example a Samsung 980).

You can STILL USE a 4.0 device (in a laptop/computer) in devices that don't support 4.0, but the speeds will bottleneck and max out at the limit set buy 3.0 devices.

If you are unsure whether or not your computer or laptop supports 3.0 or 4.0 devices his is a handy free tool to tell you.

https://www.techpowerup.com/downl...rup-gpu-z/

Just download the device for free and then when you run it, in the bottom left you select your graphic card (if you have more than one) and then check the "bus interface" which is located on the right, kind of in the middle of the display. If it says 3.0 your computer/laptop is only capable of handling speeds up to that.

As I said to reiterate, you CAN USE SSDs that are higher but you'll likely pay more and won't get the benefit of higher speeds.

ETA: The link I posted will NOT download anything to your computer, it goes to a link showing you what the tool is and how to use it, from that page you can choose whether or not to use the tool and download it.

Short lived? It was available on Samsung for days and I believe Best Buy matched it.

Do these work in an external case? I tried a Samsung drive in my case and it didn't work but mTy old micron SSD works fine.
I have used it in an external case and it worked. When I first cloned the drive I used a USB adapter and enclose it in an external case to clone the computer drive to it.

Will this work with the PS5?
No. Too slow. ps5 requires at least 5500MB/s.

It was on Samsung for education employees, which doesn't even work for all education employees and you're only allowed to use the discount twice every 365 days. Best Buy did not match.

Check the three c's site. Lowest historical price is $99.99.

Nope because this is Gen 3
This is a stupid BIOS limitation in the PS5. If they followed NVMe spec, this would work.

The PS5 SSD Speeds actually make sense to require Gen 4. Sony doesn't want these add on drives hurting performance of their consoles.

No they don't make sense at all. The "speeds" are not noticeable and will not "hurt" the performance of their consoles. This is just bad product marketing from ill-informed people. I test NVMe drives for a living. They're not that bright since Gen3 is automatically backwards compatible until you lock it out by choice. There is no benefit in doing so.
