My sense of time is horrible but wasn't this a highly anticipated grinder to rule them all not all that long ago? Is Fellow coming out with a new model? Huge overage of white grinders? Piling up at BB&B foreclosures?
Inquiring minds want to know!

Annoyances of the original? Gee, wasn't this a Kickstarter or Indiegogo? You'd think they would have worked those out then, or worst case after the KS/IGG eval period.
What is it with all these companies (not just Fellow by any means) that can't design and produce a product that doesn't need to be "new and improved" a year later? Makes me not want to buy anything until a year later, (and reevaluate then). And not trust the "improvements" and "upgrades."

If you're not a super coffee nerd, you'll be over the moon with the Gen 1 at this price. You can buy upgraded burrs for this one if you feel like you absolutely need them.
Takes it down to $152
I can't see me buying this without the improved burrs which then adds another $186!!

So there is another grinder. Ode already being kicked to the curb? How long before replacement parts are unavailable? And credit offered on purchase of new grinder?

That said this replaced an OXO conical grinder, and it wasn't as much of an upgrade as expected. The grinds were an improvement and it ultimately produces better coffee, but there are a few notable issues that I never experienced with the OXO:
- Beans don't always make it into the grinder due to the shallow hopper. Not a big deal but can lead to a much more annoying problem.
- Manually helping beans into the grinder can jam the machine, and the grinder occasionally gets jammed on its own. Fixing jams is an awkward process of removing/shaking beans out of the machine.
- It's messy; there are always grinds on the lip of the catch-cup, and at least once a week the base of the machine and the surrounding countertop needs cleaning. Methods to reduce static haven't helped.
- Not an issue but the I think the "quiet grind" marketing is overstated. It is quieter than the OXO but not significantly.
Also want to point out the Ode is specifically for brewed coffee (drip, pour over, french press, etc), and does not produce fine grinds for espresso. The newer Opus model is all-purpose which can do finer grinds but probably wouldn't do as well as the Ode for brewed coffee. Our community has rated this post as helpful. A few complaints:
- It sprays chaff and fine coffee particles EVERYWHERE while it grinds. It's not a ton every grind, but if you drink a lot of coffee like I do you end up with fine bits all over your countertop over time. Plenty of grinders do not have this issue to the degree of the ode gen 1. The gen 2 fixes this by adding an ionizer to reduce the static generated. You can add water to every grind to reduce this problem, but it shouldn't be necessary.
- The gen 1 burrs cannot go fine enough for many lightly roasted coffees or small batch V60s. If you do single cup V60 batches, the gen 1 burrs straight up cannot go fine enough. The gen 2 burrs fix this, but they cost an additional $80, which brings total price to $250... still $100 cheaper than the gen 2, but point 1 is much more annoying.
Frankly, I'd pick other grinders.A few complaints:

Please spend 5 minutes reading about the grinder you posted, probably at the link you yourself provided, before misinforming
Didn't America's Test Kitchen establish that you can't taste the difference between all these fancy grinders and a simple blade (aka spice) grinder?
What misinformation? Opus is for "Everything from true espresso to coarsest cold brew" and Ode is just for coarse (pour over, drip, cold brew). So, what is Opus to Ode? It is serious competition. In fact, an Ode killer. Unless you want a separate grinder to just do coarse grind. It is valid to say you only want pourover/drip/coldbrew, but Opus will do that for you.
You should stop misinforming. Here's an easy-to-read table for you, since you seem to have missed it in your extensive research.
https://fellowproducts.
- Opus does everything Ode does (and more)
- Opus is cheaper, except for Ode white - Opus $195, Ode 1 $199 ($169 white), Ode 2 $345
It is simple.
- If you do not have James Hoffman-level taste buds, most grinders (even blade!) are fine.
- If you still think you need a fancy grinder, and all you are ever going to grind coarse, and white works for you, this might be a deal
- otherwise Opus.
