I imagine it depends on where you go, but I imagine pick pockets would have a hard time with the pockets being on the front.

Yes, it works best for photography with organization in the various pockets for extra filters, lenses, cables, etc. As a travel vest (I have something somewhat similar) I find that I tend to use the largest pockets and not the really small ones.

That's not why, it used for travel to save on baggage fees. If you are only allowed a personal item you can stuff a bunch of things in the pockets and be able to bring more stuff with you without paying for a bigger bag.

I have a photo vest and scottevest and want to try this. Scottevest is better than the photo best, better organization, but the iPad pocket is a bit silly. They can work, don't know about this exact one.
