Read the books. This is my favorite series of all time, and I'm a retired literature professor.
The Penny Arcade guys loved it.
Apple made a bajillion dollar show off it.
The author is nearly a household name from it.

This is where it started.

As a note, there's a collection of short stories he has that includes stories from the SILO world. One of them is technically a sequel. The author's note after that short is one of the best bits of advice on writing ever... but it absolutely shouldn't be read until after the trilogy and story. Worth the journey.
The whole trilogy ebook was 1.99 in March.
Really enjoyed the first season of the show. Hoping that the show is popular enough they're able to finish the series. I read the first book probably a decade ago but got the audiobooks to listen through once I finish Project Hail Mary (again).

Amazon.com is very deceiving. I have it on Kindle but doesn't show I ever purchased it.

I agree. They can do better showing the source of books and audiobooks. If you have rented something in the past they sometimes still show it as part of your library and it gets confusing.

I had an issue last week where Amazon system said I have an audiobook in my library, but it wouldn't let me download it. On both the app and website it said 'In your library'. I called them about it and then they mentioned I had downloaded the book at some time as part of the Audible premium library (that has a selection of books in catalog to rent at any time).

I was pissed cause I passed on spending a credit on the book when I was an audible member and I had credits, since I thought I already owned the book outright. And now I wanted to start the series but couldn't since I wasn't a member anymore. I had 14 of 15 books in the series, all except the first one!

I gave them feedback that when a person is a member and gets books from the premium collection, they ought to state - 'rented from collection', instead of 'In your library'; which is the same moniker they give to books your own outright. When you have been a member for years and have hundreds of books in your library you can't keep track of what you own vs what you rent. Moreover, I couldn't understand why it still showed the book as being in my library when I didn't have audible membership any more. Such a poorly designed system. They rolled out a new feature without thinking it through 😒.

I read the whole first book in a few days after I finished the show needing more. Loved the book and would highly recommend to anyone who liked the show. It's different enough that it didn't feel repetitive, especially since you're fully past the show about halfway through. I'm kinda stuck mid-second book. Not really grabbing me in the same way as part one. Anyone have opinions on books two and three?

For the second book, once you get through the Mission section, it gets noticeably better imo.

Haven't read the third yet.

FYI, for people willing to spend a bit more, you can buy it directly from the author on his website. DRM free. That's what I've done for the first two books

Use your public library for free. They just put out the three books on audio.

The first book is a slog until the end. The second is a prequeal that explains the first book. The third book picks up at the end of the first book.

I'm super lost. I didn't even know they started to make a show about this book. So the book posted here is not the same as the Hugh Howey book one? This is the shows version of book one?
I imagine it's exactly the same book. They often update book covers to reflect the movie/show if one was made.
The show.... wasn't bad. but definitely not as good as the book. (that's almost always the case lol)
in general the actors were decent, but it sure reeked of diversity quota. just all apple/disney/netflix etc do now. if one were to guess based on media, they'd think america is 75% black, 90% gay, and any straight white male you encounted would be a hapless loser.

As I recall it wasn't just the 4 short books for Wool but there was a prequel (Shift 1-3) and/or sequel (Dust) and also fan fiction? I feel like it's been 10 years since I became a fan of Wool, and the whole sub-genre of Silo stories.

The author-sanctioned fan fiction. Need to find if there a list of those set in Hugh Howey's silo universe.

Now after 7 episodes of the show I want to go back and read them all again.

I read all three books. I must be forgetting something, I thought it was pretty true to the book, however I've not yet watched episodes 9 and 10 yet. Is it here that it diverges?
They added so much stuff that wasn't in the books, seemingly just so they could split the story up into 2 seasons, I was hugely disappointed in it as a longtime fan. They started diverging pretty early and by episode 5 or 6 it was barely following the book at all. They mostly hit the same beats and major plot points, but there were tons of extra characters, characters who had minor roles in the book now main characters, characters completely changing personalities and motivations.

Really wish they had just done 1 season and stayed a little closer to the book.
