Also heard that microcenter is pretty bad with repackaging returned parts and selling them as new so I'm a little hesitant

MicroCenter marks and sells returned items as open box and discounts the items that are returned. If you're implying they sell used/returned items as new, I've never had that experience at my location.

In any case, the open box items are never discounted enough IMO to be worth considering - a lot of the open box CPUs are marked as "bent pins" which I'd never take a chance on - it's astounding to me how many open box CPUs are marked that way - lots of noob builders I suppose.

New. CPU and RAM are factory sealed. I don't know if Asus seals their mobos these days, but Gigabyte and MSI do not. In the latter cases, however, there are protective films on the VRM heatsinks, plastic caps on the CPU sockets, sealed accessory bags, etc. that would give you a good sense of whether anyone had used them.

I dont know from where your sources came up. all items are FACTORY sealed. At NJ, Yonkers, Flushing location none of them sells "used" time as new. I can attest that. Lovely experiences with MC lately.
