For what it's worth I bought this same drive last year for ~$165 and that was an excellent price at the time. Prices have dropped been dropping for solid state drives for a while and may continue to drop.
Gen 3 vs Gen 4 doesn't really matter much for an OS drive. Random read/write benchmarks (with QD 4 or less) would be more telling of performance versus the sequential speeds.

Now if you're someone who will be copying over large files on a regular basis (such as for video editing), that's where the Gen 4 speeds will be most beneficial.

I have been running the 1TB version of this drive and it runs great. I run it with an 11th gen i5, 32GB of DDR4 3200 RAM, and an RTX 3090. I get great benchmarks. Plus I use Samsung Drive Magician (it's free) to maintain the firmware and log the performance.

This is Gen 3 ~3,500MB/s. If your hardware supports it, it'll be fine for the OS (faster than HDDs and SSDs). It's not the latest/greatest/fastest for high-end systems though.

...I was just pointing out what it is. I even said it was fine for the OS.

yes. This is a fast drive. Even ssds run windows 11 well and they're 7 times slower

makes no difference. You won't notice the difference between gen3 or 4 unless you're writing terabytes for hours.

same goes for ddr4 and 5

i am using this in my Hp Envy for at least a year now. No issues with speed. Crystal disk still shows 100% with 19TB read and 25TB write Thanks

Same price as NoEgg with out any risk. Did I not see this for $80 2 days ago?.. Prices are indeed still falling and I was told the price would stabilize by now too.

Transfers speeds make no real-world difference between the gens, but random speeds tend to be faster on the gen 4s aren't they? Random speeds are what someone might actually notice in real life use when it comes to system responsiveness.
