Ironically, I literally just installed these today. I bought them back in Sept, but didn't put them up until today. i can't speak to the thermal aspect, but they really are great for blocking out light. I needed the room dark for nightshift nurses sleeping during the day. There was some light bleed on the sides, but the curtains themselves did great at blocking out the light. I finished at 2pm and the difference between leaving the curtains open, and closed was literally...(sorry, have to do it)...Night...and day. Smilie

Just FYI that these and other similar cheaper curtains like this material will eventually fade, I've had them after 2 years and the back facing (navy blue) the sun was completely faded that I had to replace them with more expensive curtains with proper backing. They still functionally worked and I could have kept them on, but if color fading bothers you spend a little more for one that's more durable.

Decent price for panels, hopefully the colors are as expected.

I have these blocking off a doorway and it works surprisingly well. From inside to outside, the temp difference is about 20F.

Before you had these curtains, do you remember what the temperature difference was? How much did this really help I guess I'm asking

about 5F. The doorway leads to a poorly made extension with no insulation. inside there could be 95F and the area inside the doorway would be about 90F (the air conditioning doing its best to fight it). Now with the curtains, 95F out and 75F in. I could do better with a solid door but I don't own this place.

These are room darkening, not blackout like the title says.

Right from the product description
"EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE: These room darkening living room curtains block 85%-99% of light (darker colors perform better), providing sound reducing and enhancing your TV viewing experience with the innovative triple weave technology."

Would black/dark color just absorb sunlight so thermal aspect won't work as well?

They're blackout. Most companies call these products "room darkening" cause that's what they do. These are also labeled as 99% light filtration in the same spot that says they are darkening. It's not getting any higher than that, this is their version of a blackout curtain.

Are these similar to the ones Helen asked Andy to buy?
