I recently bought the skagen
Grenen Solar-Powered. Really liking it so far. Light weight, looks amazing and not pricey. I can't comment on durability yet but hopefully it will last as long as my previous citizen eco drive.
how long did your eco drive last? considering buying it just curious if it lasts, thanks!

I bought a fairly inexpensive but nice solar-powered Seiko about 5 years ago. Now it won't hold a charge. I was told the capacitor needs to be replaced and that it will cost at least $100. Needless to say I'll probably put the Seiko in a drawer permanently and will never buy a solar-powered watch again. Cheaper and more practical to replace the battery.

Any good watches to buy under 500 dollars ?
Tons of them. It depends on what you want, style, features, etc. But Seiko, Hamilton, Orient, Tissot, Victorinox, and many other brands, including many unique micro-brands, have phenomenal offerings at or below $500.

https://teddybaldassarre.com/blog...-under-500

This is a pretty solid list. I'd vouch for everything here except the Marathon. (Marathon has a legitimate place in military watch history, but the plastic general purpose watch is not worth the price IMO.)

And that's just automatics. If you open it up to quartz and solar, there are hundreds of great options.

Depends on the watch but replacing a battery and capacitor is essentially the same process for a lot of solar watches. A battery is essentially a capacitor anyway. It'll cost more than a battery (maybe $20) but most people should be able to replace it themselves in a few minutes. It took me maybe 10 mins to change my Eco Drive cap. Opening the case back is usually the hardest part but easy with a dedicated $5 tool.

Check out some YouTube videos.

They're going to upcharge quite a bit for labor but may depend on the specific watch. I'd try to see if you can find a video of a replacement. Most are pretty straightforward and the cap for my watch was $18 online.

Also, if you didn't ask, always try to get a breakdown of parts and labor costs separately and do your own cost comparison online.

I have a Citizens Eco and same thing, it's crazy how many compliments I get on it. It's about 5 years old, got it for about $280, and I wear the sh*t out of it. Pool, beach, yard work, jogging. I don't wear it when I shower or sleep, besides that you won't see it off my wrist.
Same here, and I've been wearing my Eco-Drive since 2010 Smilie

It's a nice looking watch, but "swiss made" does *not* need to be mentioned on the dial like this. Can be stamped on the back case that it's made in switzerland. Looks really cheesy on the dial, imo

Good watch, but I'll never buy quartz watch that needs battery change. Solar powered are trouble free and way better.

It's a selling point for some people.

Be aware that PRC200 is the most counterfeit product replicated by China.
Saw my friends PRS200 and fall in love with Tissot quality for the price and found out about PRC200 that i liked the design better.
Research have shown a lot of replica models that you can not tell if it is OEM or fake.
The deal is that the movement used C01 plastic quartz is priced at $5 in china bulk shopping and can be fitted in by many factories. Unless you buy from authorized dealer then i would not spend my time shopping for fakes.

Just another idea! I tried to add a photo. I am curious if it worked. So, hear me out. I'm just tossing out my .02 cents here. The watch I'm recommending is not a chronograph. It is a gorgeous Tissot power 80 automatic and can be had for $229.26 at Jomashop if you have the patience to sign up for Jomashop emails they will send you a coupon for $20 of $250. Then, add a filler item to get over $250.00. I added the least expensive item I could find. (the hand cream). I own that watch and absolutely love it. I also prefer automatics to quartz. So, to each their own. I just thought I would throw that out there if someone finds that helpful. ALSO, this Tissot Quartz Chronograph that is posted here is gorgeous as well! I am NOT here to knock that watch! Just giving an automatic Tissot alternative that I have personal experience with. Best of luck Slickers!! Smilie - Frosty

Thanks! I got one.

I already have a prc200 from last year (I'm the OP on that post) and got a PRS516 Powermatic 80 earlier this year, but this would be a nice addition to my collection.
