While these are reliable, dual hose units - the newer Midea Inverter based units are more efficient, quieter and move a whole lot more air.
Own both the Whynter ARC-14s in storage now as backups, as well as the 14k BTU Midea units, which have replaced the Whynters at our house.

It's hard to describe how much better the Midea units are - soft ramp up for the compressor, and running at fractional compressor capabilities to maintain room temperature - the inverter compressor control is fantastic. Additionally, the Mideas are wireless enabled - you can set schedules with the app, and control them remotely. The Wynters are just hard ON at 100% capacity or OFF - there is no middle ground with them, but they are fine units - just older, less efficient technology.
I have one of those refurbished Toshiba and haven't had a problem with the ac. The Toshiba is quieter than this one and cools down my living room pretty quickly. I don't think this is a inverter compare toToshiba which can save you money in the long run.
The Toshiba/rebranded Midea refurbished inverter one on woot that everyone is talking about is actually dual hose even though it looks like a single. It's a hose inside another much bigger hose so it's still two airstreams. So I'd believe it if the efficiency is just as good or better than this Whynter. That and the heating and wifi integration on the Toshiba work pretty nicely.

For the midea/toshiiba/etc. inverter units - there is a known issue BOTH of mine had.
Their compressor lines will rattle when it turns on, because Midea does not use enough rubatex insulation on the copper pipes. It is an easy fix - take off the main hose and you can see the compressor pipes - slide the insulation down a bit to keep the copper lines from touching and problem fixed!
The real value coming from the comments once again!

Blain's Farm and Fleet was selling rebranded Midea units (under the Danby name) for $299.99 last year. I regret not buying a few more for downstairs when the humidity went real high.

House warms up to 75 during daytime heating. Outside temp goes down to 70 overnight. I need it to be lower-mid 60's to sleep. Outside temperature is cooler than than inside the house, but does not equate to the temperature I need the bedroom to be. Hence I run the A/C.

A couple of nights ago it got down to 60 at night (actually around 6am) but I still ran the A/C due to the humidity getting up over 90%, cant sleep in that either.
That's because it's crappy and does NOT remove humidity(appropriately).

House we fixed up and selling(unfurnished) in central FL.
I have a properly sized Central AC at 75-76 people say it's cold

The hotel i'm staying 69 and uncomfortable because of humidity.
They use those lame oversized & inefficient PTAC units.

i have one of these, it works great for small spaces like a 800sq ft space with 9 ft ceilings. In a residential, this trips up my power breaker all the time, so be prepared to have an extention cord from a different outlet that isn't on the same system as where you might need it.
It's only rated for 500 sf. Does it really work that well for 800 sf when it's really hot out? I have a brand new Honeywell portable a/c (dual hose) rated for 700 sf, and it doesn't effectively cool my 672 sf place with 9 foot ceilings when it's been >90 outside even when I have it turned down to 61 degrees and it's blowing cool air.

Dang, tempting, but tons of fake reviews. The adjusted rating via Fakespot is only 2 stars.

fakespot isn't any good .... its actually likely to steer yourt wrong if anything ... look it up.. the extensoion has a horrible user rating as well... abbout this ac though... you'll never find a new one for cheaper than this.... this AC if set up properly will chill your room to 60 degrees in 10mins... one of the best portable AC;;'s dual hose also which is a requirment

out of stock
I tried to check out and got an out of stock message.
Just went through it again because it was still showing in stock on the product page. And the order went through.
I guess we'll see.

For those thinking about window units... I have new windows in my house and just tried to put a window shaker in because of an emergencey and they are about 1/4" too small to fit a window unit now. My old windows did allow a small window shaker. Frown I bought one of these, thanks repped!

Hmm I am speaking for the dual hose but have only ever used this in 85 degree weather. Not >90. I can see how this might struggle at such high Temps in a big space.
