Amazon won't ship this to California, just FYI
The price of the concentrate is almost $60, and it says you need 5 oz to make one gallon. If my math is correct, that actually comes out to still be more expensive than just buying six or seven of these premixed containers. Or if not more expensive at least the same price. So for me I would just buy two of these because that's all I really need. Or even buy six of them and not have to deal with the hassle of mixing.

On another note, does anybody have an opinion on Effectiveness versus another product like this one from Walmart that's actually a dollar cheaper and oftentimes even $2 cheaper when it's on sale?

Spectracide Weed & Grass Killer, Ready-to-Use, 1-gallon https://www.walmart.com/ip/20703013
Not bad for touch ups but the concentrate is much better if you have a large area. 1 Gallon doesn't go super far beyond doing touch ups on like sidewalks or a fence line you don't want to weed eat.

Or more specifically glyphosate.

Note that this is a REFILL. It does not include the pump and spray nozzle, which is needed to safely use this product.

I've tried this awhile back. I think there are two different ratios. The 5 oz was for what they consider weaker weeds. The more robust weeds should use a stronger mix ratio. It may have been 7 oz. This was slow acting compared to Roundup. Much slower. It eventually did the job, but took awhile. So I'm not sure what ratio mix they use in the ready to use. I prefer Roundup overall.

On Amazon, a gallon of the conentrate is $58.80 (it says deal from $85.99).
If you use 5 oz to make a gallon... it makes 25.6 gallons of ready to use spray.
thus a gallon would cost $2.30.
I had a gallon of round up conc. sitting on my shelf for a few years. Every year the potency goes down. First year it would kill everything with a little spray. 2nd year youd have to coat it more to kill it. for years after that youd have to soak it to kill it. Keep that in mind if you plan on having a gallon of concentrate and arent going to use it often.

This is only $7. What's the difference
I believe Ortho has a more durable kill than Spectracide based on reviews.

The cases in that study was not homeowners but they "focused on the most highly exposed groups."

40% larger chance of one type of cancer if exposed to it all the time.

The real slick deal is making your own. 1 gallon cleaning/industrial vinegar(not the food grade, though it works in a pinch). Mix in 1 cup epsom salt and 1 Tablespoon of dish soap. Kills green indiscriminately, don't use where you want anything to grow. Great for gravel driveways, cracks between sidewalk, etc. Biggest benefit is to pet owners as it's completely safe.

I have kids, my wife was concerned about my neighbor spraying roundup.

I did some limited research and the product below seems to be safer if you're concerned about these types of things. Active ingredient is ammonium nananoate vs glyphosate or Diquat or dicamba in roundup or this posted product.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N6X5...tails&th=1

The pdf below is a good reference though full disclosure I cant speak to the independence or quality of the analysis, I'm blindly trusting it.

That's a bit of a logical jump. There is a strong link between Roundup and cancer, hence why there's a series of lawsuits like: https://www.roundupsettlements.com/

Plus we know it kills good and bad plants and insects indiscriminately.

But hey, at least the water-guzzling monocultural fake American dream of emulating the French with a green lawn for every home will live on in spite of now knowing the impact.

Personally I have been using this for years here in Florida.
Ground clear used to kill everything, no reemergence for 9-12 months.
This year I have used it 3 times and each time the weeds and grass return within weeks.
In my opinion, like many of today's lawn care products, it's not what it used to be.
Again just my experience.

If you truly need a lot, then something like this is a better option: https://www.amazon.com/Compare-N-...B00ARKS3XO

Used to be $20 before the pandemic, maybe it will come back down but i'm not holding my breath.

I have no idea if this is the same as round up, but cancer isn't the only worries. I have a family member who used round up all the time and has Parkinson's. It is for sure the cause? No but there is definitely evidence it does cause it. I try to reduce my risk as much as possible. Just food for thought.

Would 1 pound of salt in 1 gallon of water work to kill weeds / grass or is this one better?
Trying to find a permanent solution to get rid of some grass. I did the vinegar / salt / detergent thing and it didn't last for long. New plants started growing in same spot in a month.

That's because Roundup kills it to the roots. But many of us don't trust the safety of glyphosate.

Actually this study draws most of the conclusion from experiments on mice. There were many other studies that did not show association between glyphosate and cancer. If you randomly pick studies you can find that coffee [forbes.com] and oxygen are increasing cancer risks.
