Amazon won't ship this to California, just FYI
The price of the concentrate is almost $60, and it says you need 5 oz to make one gallon. If my math is correct, that actually comes out to still be more expensive than just buying six or seven of these premixed containers. Or if not more expensive at least the same price. So for me I would just buy two of these because that's all I really need. Or even buy six of them and not have to deal with the hassle of mixing.

On another note, does anybody have an opinion on Effectiveness versus another product like this one from Walmart that's actually a dollar cheaper and oftentimes even $2 cheaper when it's on sale?

Spectracide Weed & Grass Killer, Ready-to-Use, 1-gallon https://www.walmart.com/ip/20703013
Not bad for touch ups but the concentrate is much better if you have a large area. 1 Gallon doesn't go super far beyond doing touch ups on like sidewalks or a fence line you don't want to weed eat.

I have kids, my wife was concerned about my neighbor spraying roundup.

I did some limited research and the product below seems to be safer if you're concerned about these types of things. Active ingredient is ammonium nananoate vs glyphosate or Diquat or dicamba in roundup or this posted product.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N6X5...tails&th=1

The pdf below is a good reference though full disclosure I cant speak to the independence or quality of the analysis, I'm blindly trusting it.

https://www.beyondpesticides.org/...202021.pdf

I saw a product the other day with that in it, and although ammonium sounds like ammonia, making me think it may be a safer chemical, in the instructions of the product. It refers to it as a pesticide. I've seen that on other bottles of herbicides. I don't know why.

agreed, it is still a pesticide but if you look at the toxicity study link I posted, you'll see this specific pesticide Ammonium nananoate is "unlikely" to cause human harm whereas glyphosate or dicamba is proven to cause harm.

Will this be ok to use against poison ivy plants?

I already had a nasty contact with the ones in my backyard.

Is the active ingredient here different than roundup?
Yes.
This one is a mix of 3 herbicides. Roundup is simply glyphosate.

That's a bit of a logical jump. There is a strong link between Roundup and cancer, hence why there's a series of lawsuits like: https://www.roundupsettlements.com/

Plus we know it kills good and bad plants and insects indiscriminately.

But hey, at least the water-guzzling monocultural fake American dream of emulating the French with a green lawn for every home will live on in spite of now knowing the impact.
AND, happily used by commercial crop farmers today.

Knowing the impact?

Wait a few years to see what everyone's health is like eating food from the groceries.

We have tried them all at work -- still to this day -- ROUNDUP shows a much wider and quicker range of things it kills --
Glyphosate concentrate, same as roundup, mixed heavy and sprayed works even better.

Wal-Mart etc end of season clearances are the best for finding dirt-cheap concentrate.

While I have used on poison ivy, it is a tough plant to kill. Roundup mixed with 24D has been my go to, or a specific brushkiller if I'm specifically going after poison ivy. WIth most "weed killers" they make the ivy brown, but don't actually kill it. Reason being the oil (which is what you are allergic too). If you mix your own, like me, mix roundup/24D and spoonful of dawn dish liquid and it will kill almost everything. The dawn is the surfactant that will help the chemical get past the oil to kill it.

Personally I have been using this for years here in Florida.
Ground clear used to kill everything, no reemergence for 9-12 months.
This year I have used it 3 times and each time the weeds and grass return within weeks.
In my opinion, like many of today's lawn care products, it's not what it used to be.
Again just my experience.
I am sure they have modified their formula due to it being damaging to the environment.

Reference? Interested seeing as where it is sprayed recovers, or are you referring to improper use?

The real slick deal is making your own. 1 gallon cleaning/industrial vinegar(not the food grade, though it works in a pinch). Mix in 1 cup epsom salt and 1 Tablespoon of dish soap. Kills green indiscriminately, don't use where you want anything to grow. Great for gravel driveways, cracks between sidewalk, etc. Biggest benefit is to pet owners as it's completely safe.

An intelligent take in a garbage product thread. Thanks and repped friend. Gonna try the natural solution.

This does not just kill. It keeps things from growing. So, not the same.

The weeds I'm killing are certainly NOT part of the natural environment. Please know what you're saying before you say it.
