If you want to play on ps4 and ps5. If you only buy ps5 disc you can't use it on the ps4. I do that with certain games that I play and then my kid can play it on the ps4 and not take up my ps5 time.

If they are the same price, what benefit is there to get ps4 version?

There is no benefit to get the PS5 version. Its a bunch of retro 2d games. This is not like getting Street Fighter 6 on a PS4 and having the PS4 version playable on a PS5. There is a noticeable difference between SF6 PS4 and PS5. No such difference for this rerelease of retro games.

You can also get trophies for each version of the game. It's just badge collecting, so not anything special, but if the game is easy to platinum or you really love it, then you might as well earn it twice.

Umm dunno what's involved in the trophies but platinuming turtle games is not likely if the NES ones are part of it 🤣

This isnt a hot take, a lot of us do this. Its also more advantageous to get a ps4 version of a game with a free upgrade because at times the ps4 version actually plays better. Elden Ring is a prime example, for a good amount of time the ps4 version ran better on the ps5 then the ps5 version.

Unless you care about the ps5 box, it almost always makes more sense to get the ps4 version if it offers a free upgrade.
