Alaska has the only direct flight from Indy to Seattle.

Yes you can.
It is better to load these gift card funds to you Alaska Wallet and use that to pay for the ticket, hopefully the ticket fare exceeds the wallet funds some can be charged to the credit card.
Or is it better to not load them to the wallet and apply as needed to get free checked luggage benefit?
Does Alaska let you select how much wallet funds to apply to ticket purchase?

IIRC Discover had warehouses as their 5% CB category last quarter.
For my case, I used my BoA Cash Rewards CC. I set my 3% category as online shopping and because I have a Platinum Honors preferred rewards relationship with BoA, I get an additional 75% bonus on my CB. Total I get is about 5.25%.
