Different bikes. This is a mini bike with no gears. If I'm not mistaken the rip current is a full size with gears for commuting.

I'm not so sure, it says they're discontinuing the Class 2 version but not the Class 3.

I'm very hesitant to pull the trigger on the Class 2, I want to hook up a trailer to it to haul my kids around but I'm not sure it will have enough power.

It's extra silly as it seems to have the same motor, they just put in a weaker controller and battery.

I'm just a novice but the specs here seem plenty for that, assuming you have little ones that can both fit in a trailer. 750 watt motor and 52v battery. I had a 350 watt motor and 36v battery and that was plenty for my kids on a piece of junk walmart ebike. Granted, I live in a very flat area so no hills to contend with.
