About this Item:
  • 100% Mineral-based sunscreen, also known as a physical sunscreen, reflects UVA/UVB rays to help protect the skin. Developed with dermatologists by CeraVe Skincare.
  • Physical sunscreens can often leave a white cast when applied in thick layers. For best results, apply CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen evenly to the entire face and neck in thin layers and thoroughly massage into skin. Suitable for use under foundation and face makeup.
  • Oxybenzone free, avobenzone free, and benzene free, this sunscreen contains physical filters Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. Hawaii prohibits the sale, offer of sale and distribution of sunscreens that contain oxybenzone.
  • Ceramides are found naturally in the skin and can become damaged with sun exposure. All CeraVe products are formulated with three essential ceramides (1, 3, 6-II) to help restore and maintain the skin's natural barrier.
  • Formula is oil free, fragrance free, noncomedogenic, and suitable for sensitive skin. Recommended by both the Skin Cancer Foundation and National Eczema Association as an effective, broad spectrum sunscreen.

Just an FYI - this particular sunscreen doesn't blend into skin very well and disappear like others do.

that's because it's a physical barrier as opposed to a chemical reaction. there are studies that this method of protection is better for those that have sensitive skin

This is a mineral suncreen, not a chemical sunscreen. That means it's xybenzone free, avobenzone free, and benzene free. (Hawaii prohibits the sale and distribution of sunscreens that contain oxybenzone.) Yes, pretty certain it's reef safe.

Note: because it's a mineral sunscreen and not a chemical sunscreen, it works by creating a physical barrier to reflect UV rays. Therefore you might see a white cast after applying. If this bothers you, you would likely want a chemical sunscreen. But chemical sunscreens may not be reef safe.

That's what I thought, thanks for clarifying. Compared to other mineral sunscreens I do feel it does an even worse job of blending in.

Yeah it just sucks for facial sunscreen because it looks like you've put white makeup all over yourself.

Is it sweat resistant? I usually go for a run in the afternoon and I sweat profusely, since this doesn't blend in with the skin... will it just be washed off by the sweat?

FYI, this does include aluminum hydroxide based on the labeling, in case you are trying to eliminate or stay free of aluminum absorbing or ingestion because of its connection with the onset of dementia and Alzheimer's based on large population studies.

Worst sunscreen I ever had. Had this but the tinted version, not one of my shirts survived w/o getting stained, and needing 2-3 washes to clear. Would not get it if handed out for free!

In my experience Supergoop and La Roche Posay are better than this Cerave one albeit much more expensive. This one has a noticeable white cast on my light to medium skin while the Supergoop mineral one is shiny but not white. I like the Cerave hydrating sheen one though it also contains chemical sunscreen.

FYI I would recommend you to try put on a thin layer of powder to absorb the oil to see if you can salvage what you've already have.

I don't think this is sweat resistant. Never used it with sports but it stings my eyes.

Second this comment. All my shirt collars are tinted a nice beige color.
