For some reason my cat doesn't like this particular color. Anybody else had same issue? I have a calico!

That is so interesting. Scratchhead I would never have imagined cats being sensitive to colors but who knows. Mine has always been very picky about beds and towers and such. I am going to start paying attention to color and see if that might be why. Thank you kridel and SweetT23 for that insight.

I find cats tend to enjoy lounging around colors that match them. This is probably due to their prey instincts of camouflage. But, of course each cat is different and can have their own crazy personalities.

I was gifted one of these in 2019 and it's still going strong. I usually only buy Armarkat brand myself but have been happy with how this has held up. Even the jute fiber on the scratching posts has held up (though it doesn't see as much action as some of the taller trees with scratching posts).

Cats seem to use it more if I put small towel or pillowcase over it. My aunt saw how much they loved it and bought one that never got any use so she took the top off and used it as a dual scratching post for a while. The ball isn't going to last and make sure you check the height. As a shorter guy it only goes up to about my knee.

Having some experience with cats it probably wasn't the color that was off-putting but something else whether it was a scent, location, material, etc. My white cat is the #1 user of the dark version and all my grey and orange cats hang out on my white/beige towers. Being low to the ground it doesn't offer the "safe perch" feel some of my taller trees have.

While I liked it if it weren't a gift I'd just go with a much bigger tree for 3-5x more (make sure to get one with scratching posts rather than felt posts that won't last long). If you keep an eye out for deals on big pet sites you can get them almost 50% off retail as well.

I currently have 7 indoor rescue cats and I purchased something initially last year and was very surprised at how much my cats loved it - so I bought several more.

I set one up in each room and am still amazed at how my cats stop at each one to scratch it. Wish I'd had these before they destroyed all of my furniture.

The ball is usually the first thing to go, but otherwise these are very sturdy and have lasted over a year. I purchased more a month ago.

I bought this exact product 7 years ago. My cat has not used it once. Your cat may not care about my cat's opinion, but there it is.

3 of my 7 cats use the scratchers several times per day (like it's a ritual), the rest use them once or twice per day.
