Absolutely not garbage, this is an excellent computer at this price. Would serve the vast majority of people's use cases. Though personally if I was in the market I'd buy a used M1 Macbook Air for ~$500 on eBay

Another option for the newer M2 version can be had directly at the Apple Edu store for $499 + $100 Apple gift card if you're into the ecosystem and would use the gift card, makes the current Gen model the same price:

This would be a perfect entry level Mac for an average user. I am a long time Mac kool-aid drinker lol, but even my mid-level computing tasks are adequately served with the base model 15" MacBook Air which has the exact same specs. Runs smoother than most PCs I've used that look better on paper. I also don't play games on my Mac lol.

Some people see 8GB and immediately crap on it... this tells me they've never actually put fingers on an M1 or M2-based Mac. Simple as that. It's not like Windows where 8GB isn't enough.

This is a good deal on a nice little small form factor Mac.

Mac operating systems are functional with lower ram, unlike Windows/Google operating systems which require more for smooth operation when multi tasking. Only issue I'd have with it is needing a USB dock. Two USB-A ports is just not enough for me. If I was in the market I would be interested though. Being able to run a virtual Windows OS as well as having the Mac OS has always been the way. That's the beauty of Apple.

I have this exact computer that I bought about a year ago. There isn't anything that is deficient for what I consider daily use - internet, light office work (mainly in the Google suite), occasional movie making, etc

This spec is plenty for most people unless someone has specific needs, such as high end graphics for gaming or much heavier duty video processing.

BTW, I pay for Dropbox plus so storage is not an issue. I only save less than a hundred megabytes files on the computer that I do not wish to show up on the internet
