Definitely not. Just about every common dongle on the market has been tested, and the Apple dongle is the best on the market. In fact, it's the best budget DAC on the market and regularly recommended by the audiophile community. It even has better audio quality plugged into a PC than plugging headphones directly into the 3.5mm headphone jack on the motherboard. The Google (Pixel) dongle is the second best. All other dongles fall far behind in accuracy. Why anyone would buy the no-name dongle in OP, when the far superior for only $6 more is beyond me. This is pretty obviously a paid post. I wish SlickDeals would at least vet the products they're being paid to shill before they post them.

^ What he said. I'll repost what I said the previous time this "deal" was posted (coincidentally by an SD staffer too):

Don't even bother with this random knockoff. Genuine Apple USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter [apple.com] is just $9 shipped directly from Apple. Or pick it up at your local Best Buy [bestbuy.com] for the same price. I definitely trust a branded item more for a couple of extra bucks.

I wouldn't waste a usb-c port on JUST a sound port....spend a little more and get a dock like the Verbatim 9 in 1 for $15.99 that has the sound port and alot more. Otherwise you end up with a handful of cables when just 1 will do.

Regarding "shill" posts.....my general rule of thumb if the product has a coupon code is to ask myself how whoever posted it got the coupon code if it's not generally available.....the capital one shopping app and others like "honey" will accumulate alot of codes from people..I also encourage you to try Keepa for amazon products...and the camelcamelcamel app ....for one with keepa you can set price tracking and alerts..for the other both ccc and keepa maintain price charts over time....you can easily tell if a product that was selling for $20 was jacked up to $39.99 for a week and then given a coupon code that *surprise* brings it down to $20.

Unfortunately price trackers do not include coupon discounted prices.

While true it's still easy to see a spike from $20 to $40 and then you see the post with a coupon code. or if done multiple times you'll see it go from 20 to 40 back to 20.

Make sure you are buying the USB version. The $8 one at Walmart might be the Lightning one.

There is a link built into the quote. It could look either as an arrow or a chainlink (depending on which site design you are seeing):

and to think that we don't need this whole class of junk products if phones simply come with 3.5mm jacks by default as they had always been, what a shame....

also I noticed my phone drains faster when using dongles whereas my older phone with 3.5mm jack did not have that issue. in fact it uses less battery when using crappy bluetooth bud than using wired with dongle.

Be aware android buyers, the Apple recommended adapter has a limit volume (barely audible at full volume) which means its better to use anything other the apple one.

i also found out about that lightning version. its actually on final clearance at your walmart neighborhood store for $2.50 if they still have them.

That's only really an issue for the EU version (they have laws limiting volume on these to protect hearing, so they only have 1/4 voltage). The US version limits the hardware volume on Android phones by default, but can easily be fixed with an app like Universal Audio Player Pro. It forces the dongle to full hardware volume for the entire device. Otherwise the Google dongle isn't all that far off from the Apple one in terms of quality. Either will be fine on an Android phone.
