Sorry you had to deal with that. Unfortunately, spares are becoming less common in ICE cars as well, so this situation can be hard to avoid.

One tip - if you call the number on the back of any Visa credit card you have, they have pre-negotiated a flat rate of $80 for a tow up to 5 miles: https://usa.visa.com/content/dam/...enefit.pdf

I used them for the first time this summer. We had a tire completely blow out in the first ten miles. Luckily it was just my wife, two kids, and two dogs in a fully packed van. We called and they apologized profusely. They put us in touch with their roadside assistance who said it would be 3.5 hours for a tow. No spare. Thankfully a state trooper pulled over and got us quicker assistance. We got towed back to the airport we rented from, only to find out that they closed and went home with us stranded a few miles away. No new rental available.

The icing on the cake is how they still charged us for the entire rental period and they charged us for roadside assistance. Over $1,000 for 10 miles of driving. Plus the tow truck that ended up costing $200 out of pocket (which was a bargain)

All they offered us was a coupon for a free day on our next rental. Nothing else. Plus it was almost impossible to find an agent who would respond by voice.

* Your best bet is to blast them in tweets and they will finally get back to you and offer you, while nothing worth while unless you rent often.

Actually the opposite. I think they make a lot of sense if you park in your garage at home with a charger. With my electric rates at home, charging an F-150 lightning would be half the price of fueling my current 2.7L gas F-150. You still have to justify the initial purchase price, but if you drive enough going electric can absolutely make financial sense and you're saving time charging at home vs wasting time at the gas station.

However, charging at public chargers is about the same price as gas when you compare equivalent vehicles, i.e. F-150 Lightning to F-150 ecoboost. You're paying just as much and getting less convenience, and that's not an SD.

Yeah, their customer service is pretty terrible. You literally can't call the Raleigh location. There's a number but the two options either tell you to go online or just hang up on you.

Also, an employee really sassed a mom with a couple small kids/baby. Fortunately the mom was fine and I'm glad I didn't say anything because THAT employee eventually was our final check person leaving Hertz.

Wish location by me had more EV options than just the Tesla Model 3 or Y.
But plan on reserving a Y for the weekend. I have never driven an EV, and I also want to see how my 3 kids get along lined-up in a back row (as opposed to 2 in middle one in back of 3 row)

Ooh seems like a good way to give EV a try before fully committing to one.

I do Turo, and sometimes I wonder why my clients are willing to pay more to rent my older cars. Every once in awhile I read a story like this and I remember

Aren't most people pretty busy when they're traveling? So you either have to take time out of your trip to wait for it to charge or rely on the hotel you're staying at having a working and available charger and go straight from the hotel to return the rental. Electric cars as rentals just make no sense to me.
superchargers make charging a non issue.

pee breaks take longer than charging for me. just make sure to charge from low state. charging from like 50% to 90% is much slower than 10% to 50%.

Not working out of ALB during the specified time period and duration, but hopefully it's useful for others!

Rented a Tesla Model 3 Long Range Dual Motor this week using the code: I'm impressed that Hertz lets you choose the exact model. Amazing vehicle and a kick to drive!

I was surprised that at a small in-town location they had all the Tesla's, a Chevy Bolt EUV, and even a couple Polestars.
We're you able to choose during checkout or is that specified under the size you choose?

Rentals and fleets are probably the best use case of all. Charging overnight at hotels or even a lot of air bnbs would be a great way to test them out if you don't have a level 2 charger at home (if you do, you probably already own an EV)

It's also dependent on what your efficiency is. It's awesome that you compared a F150 Gas vs F150 Elec. But when most people compare vehicles they don't take into account of current avg gas mileage vs new EV miles/kWh. A vehicle getting 4 mi/kWh is very different then a vehicle getting 2 to 2.5mi/kWh.
In a gas car it's mainly what's your MPG in an EV It's what's your battery capacity AND your efficiency. At least that's what it should be. I know that's the first number I look at when looking at buying another EV.
I'd rather have an EV that's more efficient than longer range. Especially one that can charge quickly on DC charging. Usually a level 2 public charger is 6.6kW/h or 7.2kW/h. So having a more efficient EV will get you further down the road when compared to a less efficient EV when charging the same time frame.

and that's where you'll be able to recover your initial costs faster and spend less time charging at public chargers. you won't be as reliant on public charging if you have charging at home.

and it can work for someone who only has a level 1 (120v) charging at home.

How about anyone who thinks an EV is a bad rental actually rent one and find out? I rented a Model 3 from Hertz and it was great.

It won't fit all use cases but for 90% of rentals it's probably just fine. And the bonus is that if you charge at the hotel or AirBnB then you don't have to stop at a gas station to fill up before returning the car.

whos going to install the charger for you for free at home? dont even factor that cost in there? dont tell me you think only dumb people would charge their ev in public. they should just charge at home like you ever wanted.
Of course people aren't dumb for making different decisions than I do. Perhaps they have different priorities or constraints. I'm just speaking to the cost-effectiveness in terms of both time and money since this is a deals forum after all.

That was my experience and it was totally acceptable considering the price I paid! I am renting EV Special again at JFK and will be perfectly fine to get a Polestar.

OUCH. No insurance from your credit card?
Rxmoss can you explain how to get the managers special? Looking to rent at ewr.
