Is this worth it or go for ls11000 the updated version. Given it's a grand more.

I think LS12000 is the laser equivalent of 5050UB. Please correct me if I am wrong which is quite a bit more. I have a 5050UB for three years now, my next upgrade will be to a laser to get extra sharpness ...

You are correct, the 11000, while a tad sharper than the 5050, has far inferior black levels. The 12000 is the true successor to the 5050; it's twice as expensive but and most certainly not 2x better.

I've owned the 5050UB, the 11000, and the 12000. I can only own LCD projectors as I'm very sensitive to "rainbows".

Overall a 5050UB within spitting distance of $2000 (in post covid inflationary pricing times) is a massive bang for the buck and by far the best value. Yes this projector is long in the tooth but it was so far ahead when it came out that it's still a great choice today.

The 11000 is slightly sharper but the black levels are a deal breaker. The 12000 has the improved sharpness and the good blacks but is not worth 2x the cost. The 5050 will still blow you away if you've never owned a premium (but not elite) level projector before.

Just be warned all of them are a beast size-wise.

Lamp life 3500 hours for a high end investment, it's a gamble.
You can get an OEM lamp for less than a $100. Installation is probably 5 mins or less.

We had an old Epson 3500 and used it as regular TV. It took 6-7 years for us to reach 4000 hrs.

I've eyeing UST since a year since it has less installation. Is this better than the best UST like formovie or PX1 Pro

Easily better. Contrast ratio is very important for home cinema experience and 5050UB has way better native contrast ratio, making images pop and have more depth.

If you're using in a non light controlled living room then brightness is more important because the black floor would be ruined by ambient light.

2 year warranty. Epson gives you the full regular manufacturer warranty on refurbished projectors. You can buy one year extra for about $200

my 5040 has finally started showing lines on the screen so I'm in for one.
