Just keep in mind this is not a monoprice version of the Fender/Squier Jaguar or Mustang. Monoprice doesn't have as many tone controls and is a totally different instrument.

This is essentially a HSS Strat with a different shape.

I'm in for one…I've had it on my restock list at MP, and sub $100, it's worth it to get into a Jaguar model.

Sweet deal but if you're gonna get a offset, get the soap bar pickup model instead.

Make sure it's the scale length and weight you want. I'd just get a 25.5" scale length full Strat type (for less).. It looks good though.

Nice looking guitar. I got a strat from mp for about $66 before, it is a nice instrument for the price and had surprising fit and finish. Beautiful paint job.

Bridge is also completely different. The bridge on the Jaguar and Jazzmaster is pretty iconic for it's signature sound.

Oh yeah. If the kids lose interest as they almost surely will (learning to play is HARD) you can a) regift it b) sell on Clist or best option of all C) be a nice guy and donate to a Christmas charity drive for underserved youth.

The iron is hot. ($51 guitar ebay, and vet your seller)

Buyers may want to buff the Frets and install a new leveled TUSQ nut. Just watch a video first. It does come playable. But everything needs fine tuning.

Everyone should learn to do a super setup and especially tremolo balance.

While I do a full setup on every guitar I buy, I don't think a beginner needs to go as far as replacing the nut on these Monoprice guitars. The action is really what's important for playability for a beginner, which is something anyone can do after watching a 5 minute video. That said, all three of mine came with great action. A quick polish of the frets with a Dremel and some compound would help with comfort/playability, but the frets will also mostly smooth themselves out just but playing. I will say that all of these seem to come with dry fretboards. A little mineral oil rubbed onto the fretboard and they're good to go, though (fretboard lemon oil is just overpriced lemon scented mineral oil).

You raise several good points:

They are arriving needing nothing.

The nuts should be correct. Perhaps they can make a deal with the makes of TUSQ nuts and just include them. But if I can do super easy stuff myself to get these prices then it's a win and SLICK DEAL.

I think a beginner player should begin learning how to super setup their own guitars and what is required to be able to do that. All the fine balances; where the nut is pivotal. I didn't say build one from scratch.

And Strat players need to know you can set up a basic FLOATING Trem to fall back into tune; no problems. You do not need to buy around it or use a dumb, cheaply made hard-tail.
