Maybe a poor social decision but not necessarily a poor economic one. For example, many farmers choose to just leave crops in the field rather than harvest because the cost of doing so would result in greater losses than doing nothing.

There's nothing stupid about it, stuff that ends up at used stores tends to end up back in the market and that's what they're trying to avoid.
