You don't need cat8. Buy cat6 or 6a if you're feeling fancy. Cat6 can do 10g over 100ft easy. This is snake oil.

To expand further, many spec sheets rate CAT5E to run 10Gbps around up to 50-55 meters (~160 feet). I've done it fine up to 100 ft myself.

Cat8 isn't snake oil - it just doesn't serve any purpose for a home network. There are Cisco Nexus switches that can operate at 40Gbps - you would use this is cable in a data center setting. Also if I'm working in our data center, I'm not spooling cable and creating custom lengths; no time for that.

And 10g Ethernet is already way more bandwidth than US ISPs provide, so it's only useful for big file transfers between devices on your network.

Probably the only people that would benefit from cat8, aren't buying premade 50 ft cables, they are cutting to length from a spool and terminating it themselves.

The 1st picture has it listed as an 8-pack. I doubt this is really an 8-pack, but maybe price mistake?

Probably some automated system seeing "8" from "Cat 8 Ethernet ..." and assuming it's an 8 pack.

Custom lengths = cleaner setup. Working in a datacenter where there is a mess of wires all bundled up like spaghetti is one of the more infuriating things

What? But won't this make my data bytes more rounder and more refined, so they slide through easier?

I've been in dozens of DCs (Switch/Cyxtera) and hundreds of our spoke locations so I'm very familiar with spaghetti, but that mainly comes from someone not planning their lengths and not using cable management. In our DCs we are meticulous with planning before any work is done and we also have hundreds of power and Ethernet cables of various lengths ready to use. I'm not saying I've never had to make a custom length cable, but 9/10 I don't have the time or need to do so.

Would never use Ethernet for that. Use fiber or DAC cables. Atleast that's how we have our 400G cores connected between buildings.

Yes - we use fiber/SFP+ for anything with distance and/or speed. I was just saying that there is a purpose for these cables; it's just nothing in the home realm.

There is no consumer kit I'm aware of that can take advantage of Cat 8 and nobody running 40gbps copper is going to be "I need an interconnect for my 40gbps switches, Damn, there's a deal on Ugreen....score!"

Places that require cat8 would only buy certified cables. Save yourself few dollars and get cat6.
