The Slickdeals community team has been working hard to make Slickdeals the best it can be for over 20 years, and new updates roll out to the community almost every week.
As a part of that effort, we'll be merging the Classic version of Slickdeals with the latest version of Slickdeals over the next 12 months.
You can anticipate the following as part of that platform merger:
If you primarily use Classic, there's no need for you to take any action. Your current Slickdeals account will remain active and will change to the current, unified experience automatically.
Millions of Slickdeals members are already using the current version of the website, which has dark mode support, improved shopping intelligence, and easier ways to engage with the community.
Change can be hard. Bringing all Slickdealers together into a single experience will enable you to continue to enjoy the latest community features and enhancements.
Thank you for being a member of the Slickdeals community!

You can anticipate the following as part of that platform merger:
- Access to the Classic version of Slickdeals will reduce over time. This process starts on August 22, 2023.
- You can expect a variety of improvements to the latest version of Slickdeals, often referred to within the community as "Redesign," specifically intended to make it easier for Classic users to transition to Redesign.
- The team of engineers and product folks managing the merger will conduct continuous interviews to make sure a variety of community voices and points of view are included. You can sign up for a 1:1 with a team member here [calendly.com].
- If you primarily use Classic, you will migrate over to the newest version of Slickdeals throughout the next year.

I'd ask anyone who is truly opposed to this change to schedule a time to talk with someone from SD one on one. Maybe, if we get enough folks to talk to them directly, maybe, just maybe, we can get them to give us a ... hmm... a Classic Clone using redesign. (?)

Edit: Based on some other replies, I'm also not sure if maybe the new changes are getting forced onto accounts in batches and maybe mine simply hasn't been forced to the new style yet. (I posted here before I had completely read the whole thread.) Really hoping I don't log in one day and find the new crap is the only option, although I get the impression that's probably where it's headed.
I know the devs want to make this site more modern looking but why fix what wasn't broken to begin with? Or at least ask the community for suggestions before implementation
My most recent issue was getting 6 PMs and not knowing it. I used to get a pop up. Now I don't know where to even go to find my PMs. Ended up at my profile and saw an envelope icon.
Is there something more direct? And notifications we can see immediately?
I only see the option to delete - moving folders doesn't do anything - the only available folder is Inbox.
I used to be able to download PMs as text file and save them on my laptop.
I've confirmed that forum pop up notifications for Private Messages received are currently broken for all users on the desktop views of the site. I did also verify that your account settings are correct to allow for receiving such notifications if they were working as intended. Unfortunately, I cannot provide any ETA on when this problem may be resolved. For the time being, the best on-site indicator that you have new Private Messages, outside of viewing your inbox, may be the numeric badge on the top right corner of your avatar in the navigation bar. See the first attached screenshot. Clicking on your avatar there should bring up a menu where the third option down is to navigate to your Private Message inbox.
There is also an option to receive emailed notifications when you receive new Private Messages. This setting is not yet accessible in the Redesign view. If you would like to enable this option on your account, you can reply back here, send me a Private Message, or email a request to us at [email protected].
With regards to managing your Private Message inbox, I admittedly may not be understanding your feedback on this correctly but here's what I can offer:
When you view your Private Message inbox, there are three links at the top right. The first is "Manage Folders". See second screenshot. In that view, you can create, delete, rename or empty Private Message folders.
Back in your inbox (or other message folder) there's a button in the top right with a square and a down arrow. See third screenshot. Clicking on the square in that button will select or deselect all messages on the currently viewed page. Even if you only have certain messages checked/selected, you can then click on the down arrow in that button to bring up a menu. See fourth attached screenshot. This will give you the options to mark the selected messages as read, delete them, or move them to a different folder.
The links to download all or selected Private Messages to a CSV or other file type are also not currently available in the Redesign view. For now, you can use the following link to download all of your Private messages as a CSV file. Just to emphasize the point, this doesn't provide an option to download only selected messages but will download all messages from all folders. For anyone else reading, this link is not account specific.
Download Private Messages as CSV File
If I did not adequately address the questions and/or concerns you were raising with the Private Message system in the Redesign view, please let us know.
Gotta love design "improvements"
Going to go check out some of the alternative sites
It is not my intent to be dismissive of any of your other concerns, but just to be clear, the current captcha requirements for logins is not related to this initiative nor isolated to the Redesign view of the site. Please feel free to continue to provide feedback specific to the migration from Classic here and/or schedule a time [calendly.com] to speak one-on-one with someone from our teams.

I used to be able to download as text file. I'm not sure what CSV file is, and "not account specific" sounds like I'll get everyone's PMs
I presume I would get all my PMs converted to whatever CSV is, and then could delete them (it would not happen automatically? I'd like to be sure I can open these files first). TYVM
TY for LMK how to find PM notification.

CSV is simply a text format that is designed to separate information into different fields so that it can be viewed as a table or spreadsheet (like in Excel). Thus, the text for each field is separated by commas. But you could still open it with any text reader if you don't care about viewing it as a table. The fact that it's "not account-specific" simply means that anyone can click it to retrieve their own messages to export. For instance, I clicked on it in Safari and received an option to "view" or "download" it. I clicked "view" and it showed me a spreadsheet with all my messages broken into the following columns … Date, Folder, Title, From, To, Message. If you hit an error, you might want to try a different browser (Edge/Chrome/Safari, etc). Or Shorted may mention other suggestions (just throwing out my first thought)

Download Private Messages:
https://slickdeals.net/forums/filtered/?f=9&daysprune=-1&order=desc&pp
Additionally you can go into "forum" mode in any of the threads. It's hard to find with the contrast, but if scroll down past all the crap that was added to the first comment you'll see a "View Forum Thread" link hear the comment box and the now comically gigantic page navigation.
That link takes you to the original layout. Additionally it appears adding "?v=1" or "&v=1" accordingly to the end of any URL will get you back to the view we all love with:
Settings for the extension:
Include Pattern: https://slickdeals.net*
Redirect to: https://slickdeals.net$1&v=1
Guys, seriously why can't you just let a good thing stay good?
I'm not liking the SD changes. It seems like a stripped down App version they made to run more easily on a plain older tablet and it does not translate well to desktop PC.
Seems like the classic version is the new upgraded version, and this version is what used to be 10 years ago imho.
With regards to the multiquote option, this is still somewhat available in the Redesign view of the site. When you click on "Reply" on a comment in a thread, it will bring up the "Add a Comment" modal with that post quoted. You can then scroll through the rest of the current page of comments you are viewing and if you click on "Reply" on other comments, those will be added to that "Add a Comment" modal.
At this time, the ability to multiqoute comments across multiple pages of comments is not yet available in the Redesign view.
Thanks for the info.
Another data point and function that has been nerfed is the rep system:
1. I am not sure how to give rep with the new system.
2. I can do it, but only after I click " View Forum Thread " at the top of a thread page which takes me back to classic view.
3. I get rep, it tells me the thread but not the rep comment or re-direct to the post the rep was given under my profile.
I think a re-vert option to classic view would be ideal, it functions better, there are just so many aspects missing from what is now the site vs classic, and if/when they will get added in a way they that works like classic SD is my boggle.
I'm not sure why we needed this change. Cost cutting(that happens)? Or was it to just to try to make it match the app version which it looks like a mobile tablet version with limited features now.
In no way am I trying to be negative, just giving feedback but this interface is miles behind what the site was when I joined imho.
The posts look squished due to the right side crap.
The text is too faded'/not dark enough and is hard to actually see the text of a reply with all that's going on. In classic, it's easy.
Most of the options that Classic has are missing in redesign. Those are the things that make the site useable. And a lot of the links/buttons are hidden. Why make it harder??
Add to the fact that back in the day when Redesign first came out, users were told that Classic would not be going away.
I'd suggest you scrap "redesign" altogether and rebuild Classic from the backend up, from scratch if you need to.
Your users (and others ) have told you time and again. I know you have the knowledge and the ability. Just do it!
