You can think of it in a multitude of ways but around 80% of Costco's profit [fool.com] can be attributed purely to member fees. Since the overhead in managing members is pretty low, e.g. there's basically zero marginal cost per member, the vast majority of member fees are pure profit (e.g. income with essentially zero expense). So only around 20% of their profit comes from almost $200bn in sales.

Most of these items are on sale 3-4X per year. It's not worth stocking up unless you are using a lot.
Bottom line: this is an ad, not a deal.
I think it's to prevent contractors/resellers... not some Richie Rich that wants 6 installed in his home. I would doubt even Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos have 6 or more hot tubs in their homes/ranches/etc.

Where is all the Kirland paper towel, trash bag, TP deals? Where is all the frozen food deals? What about Sparkling Ice deals? Vitamins, etc.
I don't use hardly any of these things they have for sale. I live 20 miles from Costco but will hold off until the next book in hopes it will be better. The last 2 have sucked.
