I don't normally care about brand name but Pelican is legendary and I have thoroughly tested this in a swimming pool. It didn't even let 1 drop of water in!

Many premium items relatively excel in performance, longevity, reliability, and time and/or cost savings that more than justifies their premium.
I have a flashlight I spent $60 on 8 years ago...but it's still more efficient than many modern lights, it's been dropped in puddles, raked on concrete, caked with dirt, etc...but it works flawlessly, the lens is crystal clear because it's sapphire coated, it's actually waterproof, the light is high CRI and gives better color and depth perception which means something to any that know what that means...worth every penny.
I've had $30 pocket knives that dull in 2-3 months of regular use, but I also have a $250 knife with a lifetime warranty (real lifetime warranty) that is still sharp enough to shave with after 18 months of use.
I have a friend with 3-4 old android phones that were retired for a multitude of reasons...hardware failure, poor performance, lack of OS and security updates, unreliable connectivity, etc...meanwhile my iphone is still superior in all respects and works better than their most recent replacement device.
It's a consumer philosophy. I'm a pragmatic minimalist. Buying high value goods helps me declutter and simplify my life, what I do have is easier to find, is of higher utility and reliability, lower overall cost long term, and I help protect the environment from inefficiency and unnecessary waste in the process.
That old saying comes to mind...one can go bankrupt trying to save money.
I had couple generic ones and water got in after 2-3 uses. My wife's $1200 phone got water into it and will not work. Had to paid Apple store to repair. Luckily it was under warranty and only paid $200.

You sure put a lot of time into this post. But I do agree with your arguments lol
The market is littered with overpriced junk. Society is obsessed with low prices rather than good values. It's harming people's lives and the environment, and I'm not even a tree hugger lol.
"THEY" have built an army of distracted, uninformed, consumerist robots that keep spending and never ask questions. Perfect slaves.

If anyone reading needs a waterproof pouch, this is the way to go. Don't go cheap, you will likely regret it...and regret it to the tune of far far more than you ever saved.

I agree it's no fun stepping around my slickdeal hoard only to die when I slip on one and fall

I also bought this during that sale and can similarly attest to how good it is. I've used it to take my phone out on a paddle board and kayak and it's held up very well and kept the phone bone dry.
My only note would be that it may be a tight fit for people with larger phones. I have an iPhone Pro Max and have to take it out of its case to fit it into this waterproof bag.

If these start up brands screw up, they dissolve the LLC, reorganize, and pump out the same or similar item under new branding and do it all over again.
There is a psychological theory that civility stems from the knowledge of continuous unavoidable interactions with certain people. We govern our behavior when we have to confront the ramifications of prior actions situationally and socially. These start ups and generics don't have that, established brands do. That's why it matters. This is how investment banks exploit customers...they buy up a name, exploit it, run it into the ground, and move on like locusts.
