I agree with you, I've cooked rice in a cheap $10 - $20 walmart/target rice cooker, a pressure cooker, an instant pot pressure cooker, a traditional Donabe, stove top in a stainless steel triple clad pot, and the biggest difference is cooking effort and clean up for the different methods.
But the biggest difference I've noticed in rice is the quality of rice. High end vs low end. I get a better rice taste, texture, consistency with a premium rice in a cheap $10 automatic rice cooker, than cheap rice in a high end rice cooker.

How you wash the rice, prep the rice, and cook the rice is a bigger difference than the cooker.

Just to add on a note: I use different types of rice, from short grain, to medium grain, cal rose, jasmine, and my favorite koshihikari rice.

I recommend trying different types of rice and seeing what tastes the best and what works for you. try different cooking methods. Good luck.
i have this model and its been great. also made in japan.
I don't understand what this post is trying to say about the rice cooker.

We purchased 2 units about a year ago, different Costco's, one for ourselves and one as a gift. Both failed within a month, so we're returned for a refund.

Has anyone ever replaced the pot with one that has ceramic coating? I'm not a fan of non-ceramic non-stick coatings.

Edit: I don't mean actual ceramic through. I mean ceramic style, non-PTFE, non-stick coating.

I have both. Rice cooker is better if you cook (white/sushi) rice often and are particular about the subtle quality of how it's cooked.

Instant Pot is considerably faster at cooking the rice, in my experience, which is a plus, especially for types of rice that usually take a long time like brown rice. And the IP is useful for other things. I use my IP more often for cooking dried beans.

Bought one a few years ago and it lasted a while, then started getting moldy. On top of that, it would always have super gross mushy spots in the rice that had to get thrown out. That was probably on us though. Went back to our crappy rice cooker and haven't noticed a difference other than consistent texture. I eat cal rose rice daily with steak and I wouldn't mind exploring what a new rice cooker could do. The thing I'm most interested in is having warm rice ready to go at all times. I don't know how all my asian friend's houses growing up always had rice ready to go, ours dries out.

If anyone has advice on a different cooker or how to achieve that with this one, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Bought this last year. Wish it had a retractable cord. Also wish the inside cover would come out for easy cleaning. Otherwise it is pretty nice and makes good rice.

i had this model and it sucks.

if you leave it on rice warming mode, the water condensed on the lid drips back onto your rice, making it soggy.

it undercooks rice often - every other rice cooker I've used does not do this and makes the proper adjustments.

Yep, took me way too many years to realize that. Pay a little more upfront and last many years
longer.

Why? It's a rice cooker not an Instant Pot.
Ultimately the non stick coating will come off. If you leave the rice in there too long eventually it will stick. When you scrub, well that's when the coating starts to come off.

Bought last year. Worth the price. Definitely a step up from the $10 Target rice cooker we were using. The Tacook steamer is useful.

As others have mentioned, wish the lid came out for cleaning, but I just wipe it down and leave it open to dry out. No problems so far.

The ceramic coating should last if kept well. Don't use metal and don't scrub (like any other nonstick). Soak with water if need be.

Will probably get a larger more expensive cooker later (Zojirushi?) but this works really well for a small household.

I have it and like it. Dont use the quick rice without having some towels laid down as it will burp out ricewater. Other than that it makes great rice, just use the "normal" rice.
You need to wash off that rice dust more, the broken up rice flour forms all the bubbles and foam that comes up through the vent. We wash it 3 times before we run it and never have anything burp out of the top.

Makes wonderful rice and for those debating the cheap $15 thing at Walmart vs. this, this thing just makes the most wonderful tasting/texture rice. It isn't soggy or burnt or anything. Cooks evenly and the grains are just yummy and I grew up using those cheap ones and never knew rice could taste better.

This hands down. Instant Pot rice is worse then the stove top rice.
Absolutely agree… instapot makes mushy rice … unless that's what you like….

I have used the Aroma brand with stainless inner pot for a few years now, it has been fine. Look up Zojirushi with stainless inner. More costly, with the cheapest being around $65.

Does this speed up the cook time over stove top? Like how long does it take to cook brown rice for example?

if you want to cook more than rice and grains, get the Micom. It comes with non-rice and grain settings, including steam and bake.
