It's all made by Warren Distribution. They make Kirkland, Super Tech, Amazon, and many other private label brands. It's good stuff.

Why would you ever need to do an emergency oil change?

Will it cheaper at store?
It might, but usually not by much. Maybe like a dollar or 2 less than online price, and they get bought up very fast.

Does anyone know if this is an actual known name brand sold under Kirkland?

Highline Warren* (since the buyout)

but yes

it's good average run of the mill oil that has D1G3, API SP, and GF-6A approvals/licenses. It's nothing fancy but it gets the job done.

Last time it was on sale bought in warehouse on 4/15: $38.99 - $8 = $30.99

I bought some in store full price last month and it was also $38.99, but there's no tax on oil, at least in my store. Only a $0.53 oil fee. Online I'm seeing $2.80 in tax on the non-sale price of $39.99.

There was that one deal a few years back where mobil 1 has a coupon for walmart that brought a 5 quart to like 3 bucks and change. Recall it was some kind of scanning error at self checkout.

The 0W-20 and 5W-30 appear to be Dexos 2 Gen 2. I haven't looked up whether D2G2 has been tested to mitigate low-speed pre-initiation (LSPI), common in some US direct-injection engines, especially turbos (DIT).

I personally just changed the oil in my turbo Subie (FA20DIT) with Kirkland Signature 5W-30 Dexos 1 (ONE) Gen 3, which IS tested to mitigate LSPI.

When I researched this several years ago, the Dexos 2 (not gen 2) was spec'd by GM for their small turbos, but then they changed it to Dexos 1 due to LSPI. I would personally stick with D1G3 if you have a small turbo engine with direct injection. If you don't have direct injection, then D2G2 will likely be more robust.
You'd want to cross reference the LSPI conformance with the API license, not but not before checking the OEM recommendations, which may coincidentally correlate to ACEA standards

Also, you may encounter archived information as D1G2 has been superseded by D1G3, it still retains the SP rating, but it is blue instead of green.

That said, it's unsure how this relates to the ILSAC rating, as I can't find it anywhere on the ELOCS.

To be safe, you may just want to stick with the ACEA rating.

TL;DR stick to the manual.

They were that in autozone a while back, but yeah only time I'd seen that.
Yep 👍 2013, 2014, 2015. Then they went to $2/qt during their EOY clearance.
