Unrelated to the product, but I love vortex. I bought a viper and the zoom adjustment was stuck so I called their help line. Got a gal at the end of their work day who didn't know why but she ran to grab one of the folks leaving for the day who would know more. Turns out it's common for a little glue to get stuck in the adjuster. Told me to crank down on it till it broke free and if that didn't work they'd replace it. It broke free and I was happy.

TLDR: called service line at end of business day. Actual staff at vortex USA answered and ran to intercept staff leaving the building to answer my question.

So I can actually answer this from own personal experience, 100%. Clearly anecdotal of course, but I went through this exact questioning the last time this was posted.

I actually ended up with both models ordered by accident, so I was fortunate enough to try them side by side at the same time.

My take: the Crossfires are AMAZING for the money. In fact, it's hard to accurately explain just how nice they are for $100; you truly just have to see them to appreciate the value in them.

As far as the Vipers, they too were amazing binos. The most obvious 'difference' between the two that I could mostly notice was the probably the build quality: the Vipers were a fair bit heavier and maybe felt a tad more 'beefy' in the hand. As far as the image quality and clarity, they were fairly close to one another. - At the end of the day I returned the Vipers and actually ordered a SECOND pair of the Crossfires so we'd have two.

For what it's worth, I'm usually a HUGE fan of the Vortex Viper line. I own several of their rifle scopes and up until these binos… I've constantly argued for people to aim for the Viper model of scopes for most uses. The difference in the Diamondback -> Crossfire -> Viper models as far as their scopes go is absolutely STARK. - I was surprised to see this not to be the case, at least with these two models.

TLDR: The Crossfires are an absolutely *amazing* set for the money. - The Vipers are not 3x the binos as the price might suggest.

Anyone comment on the difference between the $100 and $300 difference in CLARITY? Will a $200 difference really be seen? Thanks for any help.

eBay has become too complicated to work with—or more accurately, through—to make even a deal like with it.

Did something change recently that I missed?

The images used for this sale on eBay look like the current model of the viper (unlike some past deals)

I have Bushnell 7x35. Bought them a long time ago but don't like them because it doesn't see too far and isn't clear. I know nothing about binoculars but want to get some good pairs to see some aurora lights in Iceland sometime next month. worth the price to upgrade to these Vortex viper 10x42?

these are the ones I have

Bushnell are cheap dime a dozen models. As indicated by the $30 price tag.

Vortex optics are quality made to the point that they have a well known lifetime guarantee. They stand by their products

I believe Vortex the business is based in Wisconsin (I've driven through the small town and seen their signs, but can't recall the town). Sconnies are just terminally nice, unless you're from Illinois. Glad to hear your good experience!

Is 10x magnification too much for general purposes? Hiking star gazing whale watching etc. can someone Recommend a 8x binoculars under $300?

I've read good things about the Diamondback and have seen prices for $150. Still worth the $150 for the Viper? Does the Diamondback not come with lifetime warranty?

Short answer yes

Long answer: both models will blow away the Bushnell's you're used to. It also depends on application. For tasks that require a lot of clarity like birding or nautical applications the new limiting factor will be hand steadiness and how close you can get to what you need to observe. 10x mag can be too much for some to see clearly due to hand shake or positioning.
