TBH Mexico is in such turmoil with the cartels right now you couldn't pay me to travel there!
Your part of the reason for the bad rep without actually going or visiting... What about the States? what about the multiple school shootings? The bar shooting recently? that must mean all bars are bad and you shouldnt step foot in any bar in the states because you may get shot...

It's a common misconception about Mexico.. If your looking for trouble and going to where they are having big issues then of course your going to find trouble... Thats like going to Chicago and and visiting the bad areas on purpose flashing you have money.. i'll bet you'll prob get jumped or shot.. i've been to different parts of mexico over 20 times over the years and i have had 0 confrontations or issues. i've had more confrontations in CA in a target parking lot vs what i've dealt and seen in mexico...

$250/nt for a non-all inclusive doesn't seem like a great deal to me.

Mexico is run as a narco state. As long drugs prices in US stay high, they will keep on producing. As for Tulum, some part very upscale, some part reminds me of the bustling development in Vietnam with nice houses next to the ghetto. The forest gives Tulum a nice nature vibe but that's being threatened by ever expanding housing and commercial development.

Can you share which hotel site you used? And what dates? I'm not finding $180. Thanks!
