I'd stay away from this thing if I were you. I've owned a ton of Anker chargers, cables, adapters and power banks over the years and not had many issues. However, I bought this exact same Anker Hub in May 2023 and it died on me (HDMI stopped working) a month after I received it. Anker support was useless, but fortunately Amazon was willing to ship me a replacement. That one lasted about two months before the audio jack died... and then the HDMI on that one went out a few weeks ago. Either I have tremendously bad luck with this product or it is defective. I found tons of complaints in the reviews and elsewhere online where multiple customers have opened these up and found shoddy solder joints all over the place, the likely failure point on this item. Maybe their QC line for this hub is the exception, but I'm not wasting anymore money with Anker after that. It was good while it lasted considering finding USB-C hubs that support 4K/60Hz are usually a good deal more expensive. Oh well.

Do you have any recommendations? I've had the same bad luck as you for another Anker USB-C hub.

Well, I've been using a FALWEDI USB-C hub I bought on Amazon years ago and it has worked great for my previous needs (Essentially attaching USB Drives, SD Cards, and very seldom ethernet and HDMI output for presentations - This model does 1080p/60Hz but is limited to 4K/30Hz which I feel is unusable for daily usage). Anyhow, I have a home office now and I bought this Anker hub to use with an external 4K monitor and desk setup with a MacBook Air... I ended up biting the bullet and buying the Apple Studio Display after all. It's certainly not for everyone, but I've been wanting one for quite some time and seemingly keep burning through hubs and adapters with minimal success, so I shut up and gave Apple my money lol. The next thing I was going to try, before I saw the Apple display on sale w/ Amazon @ $250 off recently, was going to one of those $100-200 Thunderbolt docking stations, like the Belkin or Lenovo ones, and just be done with it. It's too bad as other than ports constantly losing connectivity on this Anker Hub, it was working perfectly adhered to the back of a Samsung 4K monitor with USB-C passthrough charging form the Apple power supply and everything.

Hope that lends some insight and you find something that works for you! Though my wallet is not happy, otherwise I am absolutely loving the Apple display and am planning to use it for the next decade with this MacBook, and future upgrade models when I get the itch, so that's how I justify it in my head at least haha.

Hard Pass. Guys stay away from anything less than USB Gen 3.1 and preferably 3.2 x 2. If you are buying them for the built in ethernet and hdmi/display port then just find hubs with those. the 2.0 and 3.0 ports are useless for data transfer considering all the SSDs that have been selling at 50 bucks and can handle 5 GBPS. USB 2 will give you around 40 MBps which would be 100th the speed of your data store and 3.0 can do 300MBps which is 1/10th. 3.1 and 3.2 can do 10 Gbps theoreticall but realistically you can get 1GBps from them which is 1/5 the speed of your SSD. Thunderbolt would match and beat but that chipset is way too overpriced. Buy a no name brand if you have to as long as the chipset is USB 3.1/3.2 ports.
