I've got a belt drive and they sure are quite…wish I had WI-FI on mine
Get the Chamberlain MyQ. Instant Wi-Fi. They typically go on sale for $20 on Amazon. My wife uses it so we don't leave a transmitter outside for thieves to get.

You could check compatibility of your unit with with a "myQ Chamberlain Smart Garage Control". They are $20-25 depending on sales.

Mine did disappear out of the app for some reason around the second week. I set it back up and it's been fine for about a month now. The Wi-Fi antenna is fairly week so make sure you have decent signal. Mine is at 2/4 bars about 25 feet away from a mesh repeater through two interior walls. My phone gets 3/4 bars past that, through the garage door and another 30 feet down the driveway. The phone is also without direct "line of sight" to the repeater so it is using signal bounced off the garage ceiling or through the attic/roof.
I just bought 2 of those "good-used" on amazon for $17 and they came new.

This item can't be shipped to California.

California requires garage door openers to have battery backup.

Had been looking for deals on battery backup ones but this is very tempting. Replacing old, loud chain driven Chamberlains. Had some new, much heavier garage door installed earlier this year. They work but much slower these days to open. I suspect being a Genie there would be options out there to acquire a one piece rail that would work?

I had been considering Sommer openers, but they are expensive and no one piece rail available at all. But they are supposed to be some of the quietest available and there is one bedroom right off the garage so it would be nice to finally have a less house shaking opener.

I have the button in my car that opens my old garage door from the early 2000's, do you think my car will be able to open this as well?

Yes. Rolling codes are rolling codes.

If your car has a built in button (homelink) then it shouldn't have any issues linking to this. You can watch some YouTube's for step by step directions

I just replaced a genie with another genie that has a battery. I used it just this morning when some strong storms rolled through the pittsburgh area overnight. Our power is still out.

Just me, but I will always have a battery backup on any opener that I replace.

Something else that my garage door guy told me to get was a surge protector for the opener. He told me that today's openers are really sensitive to voltage spikes and can fry the expensive circuit board preys easily.

I picked one up from Amazon for around $10.

The place I live had a genie opener before I moved in. I added the wifi components to use in conjunction with the Aladdin connect app. The app is buggy and unreliable. I personally can't leave the house without carrying a set of spare keys in the event the app crashes/won't connect/won't function to open the door (I don't have an external keypad). Buyer beware.
Why not just use the opener then instead of keys?

Nice specs but can anyone comment on Genie brand? Never used them before.
I had the 3/4hp ones installed last year and have been working great. Really quiet. The only issue I have had is being unable to program on my vehicles (Kia and Nissan), but thinking that is just a user problem.

I probably should elaborate - my goal was to utilize my phone to open / close the door when I'm out (without my car). I do have a remote opener, but it's an additional item to pocket.

Some people claim chamberlain is a better brand but Genie works fine too. I just replaced 15 year old Genie screw drive garage door opener with a new Genie 1.25-HP belt driven with battery backup. I would recommend going with battery backup, that way you can still operate the garage door during power outages. My Genie claims battery backup will open garage door 50x.

My local lowes has Genie 1.25-HP Belt Drive Garage Door Opener Battery Back-up on sale for $180 (No WiFi). I paid $219 a few months ago.

It will take 3-4hrs to install this the first time. A tip, once you have it all setup and adjusted, if the wall console (not the wireless keypad) doesn't light up red, reverse the wires on it to fix it.
