It's not the door, it's the spring. If your spring is tensioned correctly, you should be able to lift your door with 2 fingers. So even the weakest HP opener should work fine. Old wooden double garage doors with old springs may need the spring replaced. Disconnect your opener to check the tension. It should be extremely easy to open.

Not really sure why a lot of people want the battery backup so bad. For the amount of time they get used & the batteries didn't last very long for me (less than 3 years) and were pricey to replace. Just as easy to pull the emergency release. Hard to justify the extra cost IMO. I get it if your just looking for peace of mind.

On that note, the rules/notifications are temperamental as well. I have 2 set up - overnight closure, and close if open for 20 mins. A few times, the door sensor thought it was open (when it was closed), and decided to trigger... Opening my door while I was at a restaurant. The kicker: I didn't get an open notification from the app. I was alerted when my garage camera caught the motion. No issue, right? I can simply close the door using the app. Pull up the app, and I get a "no connection" error, rendering it useless. I was 5 minutes away, so I drove home to close it. When I'm out of town for a night or more, I have to disable the entire unit to prevent the accidental openings from occurring. When it works correctly, it's great, but when it doesn't, it's a real PITA.

I have had two Genie screwdrives for over 20 years and one of them is the Accelerator that opens the door really fast and I have had zero problems with either of them. I bought a Chamberlain screwdrive and on the second year the down force limit adjustment will not allow enough force to close the door when it's below freezing.

i'm guessing it's for if you're out of the house when you lose power, which is what happened to us last week, and our side door was jammed. had to find a window we could jimmy open.

The battery backup is for the old folks, disabled, who can't get to the emergency release.

$30 not that pricey for replacement battery. I wanted battery backup for when power does go out, family members can get in and out of the garage, without needing someone else to manually lift and lower it. Earlier this year we power went out for 5days due to straight line winds and tree's.

So, if you have existing wiring and hardware it seems like you can swap it out for the most part. It mostly depends on the hardware where the motor is connected and if you have the standard length header rail. Im swapping out a 20 year old unit. Running new wire through the ceiling was the worst freaking part. It took a couple hours getting the sensors installed and the wires routed through the attic. (My old one didnt have sensors.) I could have ran the wiring across the ceiling but it would look ghetto. I assembled the new unit but have to wait for tomorrow to remove the old unit and install the new unit due to the amount of time for the wiring and sensors. It looks like the old hardware all lines up fine and where the motor connects looks like I have Juuuust enough metal to connect the motor to the ceiling.
