Tramontina Pro-Series knives are one of the high-quality budget friendly brands. These are stamped knives, nothing fancy. But for the price, they may be good for college students, picnic, camping, airbnb, or any situation that the knife can be abused or stolen. They are dishwasher safe and hold their edges longer than most budget knives. Tramontina has been making kitchen knives in Brazil for more than 100 years with its US customer support office in Houston TX.

I personally own very similar 3pc Tramontina Pro-Series knives bought from Costco 8 years ago. They are sitting side-by-side with my Trojiro and Wusthof knives in my kitchen. I use them often and happy with them. In my experience, they have much better quality than other knives in the similar price range.

"Blades are constructed from high-carbon stainless steel"

This Forged in Fire fan says: many variations with different performance down the road.

According to Slickdeals' own price history, this is the normal price. Four days ago it was cheaper at $14.48. Why is this posted as a deal now? Am I missing something?

There's great value in these. This is decent steel on very easily maintained knives. Their construction lends them to the two not highly-recommended practices of washing them in the dishwasher and sharpening on an electric sharpener. These aren't the prized knives you pamper and keep in a leather roll-up case; they're for getting work done on a budget. The molded handle is very comfortable and knives of this type are frequently used in high volume environments.

Costco still sell the two pack of Russell 10" chef knives for $18, by the way. This is a similar type of knife and another outstanding value. https://www.costco.com/russell-10...77377.html

Point is, this is Slickdeals. This is the normal every day price. I'm curious why someone posted these as a "deal" when it's not. You can go buy these in three months for the same price if you want to. There are some good value Mercer and Victorinox knives right now which are not on sale. Should we post them as well?

Because the OP has Pro badge and this has Pro in the name. What more do you want?

Well it is cheaper. Don't buy the 3 piece set, buy the 8" alone, and then the 2 piece 6" and 4". $8.44 + $5.57 = $14.01.

Fair point. You're smarter than the OP (and me).

Well, nobody is stopping you.

My starting point for this board is that I expect that 90 percent of what I see here is of no interest to me and I don't care why because it doesn't matter. Topic policing is a slippery slope that I'm content to leave to the moderators.

True. But I AM interested in knives. So when I see a deal, I take a look. But I don't think it should take me 5 minutes to do my own research to realize the deal posted is not a deal at all. One would think that when seeing something on Slickdeals, it's at least a slick deal…

But you're right, I just happen to have a quiet morning, there are certainly more important things in life and this just annoyed me for a bit. I'm good now.

That's exactly why I try to reserve judgment on so much here. I clicked on this thread for the same reason. I'm not even in the market for knives, but there's an opportunity here to provide (or gain) some information on the topic, even if there's no money to be saved.

Believe me, I have my own "don't get me started" pain points about this place. But just based on what I see, I'm not in the core target group so I just take it as presented to get from it what I can. This place can be very annoying sometimes, but it has also saved me a ton of money.
