Most store only refuse to participate because they lose money on sale. I had partial ownership of subway before and we had to close it down because at one point we were barely breaking even. Even i think some of the prices are ridiculous but it's either you have Subway or you don't. Also keep in mind inflation. The same 5 dollars you had from 2010 is like 8 dollars now. Then you include inflation, commercial rent increase (the same places we left charged us (originally 1500 a month when we started in 2008 2100 around the time we closed, after we closed down it was 2600 for the next guy)
suppliers jacking up prices and you have $10-15 footlong. The people that complains the loudest are those that don't understand the economics of the whole thing. Also if Subway finds that you have profitable store the will literally place a subway near that area as corp store and cannibalize your profits till they run you out of business. Also there nothing you can do about because it's in there franchise agreement. You also can't sue them and even if you could they have better lawyers than you. There entire business model is predatory. They expect you to take all the risk and once they find out that a location is profitable enough they will run you into the ground. Over the course of the 12 years I was involved I only netted around 140k. And that was with me still partially involved in the business. Basically that's why the prices are so high and why I heavily advise against purchasing a Subway as an "investment".
There is no worse of a franchise system than Subway. One of the few companies that would license two stores within visual distance of each other and force them to compete for 'the block'.
There's a John Oliver "Late Night Tonight" segment about Subway as a company on YouTube (and HBO/Max). As usual, it's a wonderful 20 minute exposé.
The subway franchise is one of the worst to own and the owners make a tiny margin, which is why many have the owner working in there and family members because at $16 an hour or more for help, they would lose money. One of the costs of increasing the minimum wage and of the "living wage" initiatives is that those $5 deals are gone and the price of a burger full meal deal is now $12+. So in the end, the service folks are making more but the prices went up for everything and the net effect is they are where they were before, or worse.

$5 foot long is gone. Inflation surely plays into it. Ads aren't free to run, paid endorsement deals are expensive. In my opinion, Subway has to charge so much these days due to these factors and a lot of folks are finding local sub shops that are most likely better. Like others have said, $8-$10 for a sub isn't going to work for most.
I just ordered two meatball sandwiches. It was $8.79 for two and I paid with a Gift Card that was posted here on SD for 20% off.
So it works out to $3.51 per footlong. That's a good Deal to Me.

A state suing would be the best course of action if what you explained is accurate, they have the resources. That's really terrible to hear.
I think Amazon has been sued for similar practices with their knock off Amazon basics brand by undercutting their sellers.
Anytime I've looked into franchises it never pencils out. Just look at all the crap that's come and gone over the years!! They suck you in with lies of easy process, support and how well you'll do etc. Should be criminal.
I am getting "Sorry, qualifying items are missing to redeem this offer, or a better deal has been applied." at checkout.
Same here. I choose a participating location from their main page ad, order a basic sub, and get the same error.
I haven't eaten at Subway in years, and now I know why. Use to be my favorite, but with all the price rises and hoops to redeem any type of promotion, I'm done.

What the hell happened to subway. I went in the other day after several years out of convenience. A footlong turkey and small fountain soda was over $17! Even if it was BOGO that's still at best a normal deal for their chincy sandwiches.
If you're netting $$ from a sale, then you covered all the expenses associated with the sale...
Yes... I said that. I also said that doesn't mean the meager profit from the sandwich is enough to keep you in business. And where you might have lost a sale to a full paying customer it can actually be lost money.
While nobody is perfect, I'm pretty sure the business owners are better judges of what is more profitable. Many of them have tons of data from both with and without accepting coupons.
I am getting "Sorry, qualifying items are missing to redeem this offer, or a better deal has been applied." at checkout. First time seeing this and I used buy1get1 coupons in the past many times at this location
I also got same message, "Sorry, qualifying" at 3 different locations. I tried 2 different footlong sub choices and then tried 2 footlong meatball subs, both ending with same message as yours. I thought let me go through Subway App. When using the coupon through app and clicking on "learn more" in the coupon it shows dates from 6/29 - 7/10. Something is not updating at their end, either because of this recent news of selling of Subway or something else. Never happened to me before, either.
Just to let everyone know, their foot long subs aren't a full foot long. I checked it myself with a ruler. It was the second most disappointing measurement I've ever taken :/

Now I just have to find 3 other people that want to go to Subway for lunch and split this deal. 🤔
But then, I somewhat resemble the "before" Jared from their old ads about how "healthy" eating at Subway is... 🤣
