I went for an i9-12900k, but I only paid $200 for it at Microcenter. If the pricing between a 12th gen i9 and 13th gen i7 is simiar though, the latter is the wise choice as it outperforms the 12th gen.

I did the math on it about a week ago. The 13700 was about 10% faster for 8.8% more cost at the time I looked it up. That's a good value.

$400 for the i9-12900k vs $500 (now) for the i7-13700k is a bit more interesting, but isn't that 25% more for the 13th gen setup? Or are you comparing just the CPU, not the full Microcenter deal? Just looking at CPU alone, fully agreed it's a more difficult decision for most. To me the main benefit of the newer setup is faster per-thread (per core) speeds, which is where most will "feel" the speeds the most.

MC has it comb with giga 690 mb for $399, which was I got. I wish I could hold on for two more weeks for the deal of "13700k with a asus 790 mb for $500. But the z-690 mb has more slots ports though.

I got in on the MC deal for the 13700k, z790 mobo, and 32gb ram for $465 and never looked back. Hopefully they will redo that deal soon now that the 14th gen is on the horizon.
