How long to recuperate the energy savings of a perfectly working ceiling fan that uses 60 watts. buying a DC motor fan that uses 25 watts or is it even worth the hassle
fan cost 89 +tax
energy savings 35 watts
energy cost 12 cents per kw
18.40 cents per year savings
5 years to break even

Buy a smart DC fan…you will be glad you did. 7-10 speeds and up to 70% more efficient than AC motors…and really quite.

I'm loving mine and put an watt meter on one to confirm power savings. Old fan used 30-40 watts on med 50-60 on high. New fan is 5 on low/medium 10 on med/high.

Same here. Did you get an adjustment?
Yes. As long as it's within 90days they were wonderful to work with. Used the chat service.

Thanks. Got this one for the kids room.
Honestly, DC fan is great but our ceiling fans are mostly installed for the looks, we don't run it often since it's too cold in the winter and we have a whole house fan for spring/fall.

Get them before they are banned. First it was gas stoves, now it is ceiling fans.
In seriousness, the DOE says new, more efficient fans will save the consumer $16.xx over the life of the fan. But costs manufacturers $10 more to produce. And, of course, it costs the consumer a lot more to replace a fan, so that $16 isn't useful. But wait, what about potential rebates, one may ask? Yeah, that's just more taxation or wasted spending of existing tax revenue. What a stupidity to focus on. But it's because of the huge investment by (mostly) left-wing politicians into green energy businesses and stock, so it's corruption and conflict of interest. It's also an opportunity cost. We should focus on more critical needs. I hope people who thumbs down your guys' posts open their eyes a bit. This doesn't require critical thinking.

edit: And for this deal post, thanks OP. Thumbs up and reps for finding some a good deal.

I looked on Only Fans for DC motors like you said but nothing came up…
Me too. I saw things with motors but they weren't fans.

The "Blakeford" comes in either 54" blades or a 60" blade version. It looks nice and uses an E26 instead of those stupid dim integrated LEDs. I might get a couple of these. Anyone tried these before?

Mine says $8.99 for shipping for the 54" Hugger. Anyone else seeing that?

Edit: it is because I switched it to bronze

Oh geez, nice speech.

DC fans use 70-80% less energy than AC fans. They are also dead silent in operation.
Anyone replacing a fan should seriously consider a DC fan if it gets used often. People who use AC ceiling fans all the time should replace them with DC fans if they are homeowners planning to live there for a while.

I live in Florida and have several ceiling fans that NEVER get turned off.

OLD AC fan was 70W and used $7.67 in energy per month ($92.04 per year)

NEW DC fan uses 12W for same airflow but only $1.31 per month ($15.77 per year)

That's a savings of $76 annually! 4 or 5 fans and that's serious money!

AC vs DC fans is similar to incandescent vs LED lighting as far as energy savings. It's basically a no brainer!

How old was your old fan? Seriously, people are not saving $76 annually. And you can't assume 24/7. Most people are not in your climate. Have fun fanning your hot air.

You're right, I should have stated YMMV. Personally, I'm saving nearly $300 annually!

Here is a list of the DC fans included in this sale, also added it to thread WIKI:

Do yourself, (and the environment), a favor and buy a DC ceiling fan.

I have fans that run constantly as well, almost year-round (Alabama) and replacing them with DC fans was amazing. They save a ton of electricity and are DEAD-SILENT. That's not noticeable at all in a busy office or business maybe, but in your own home when you're reading, talking, or especially SLEEPING it's a night & day difference (pun intended!)

I bought two of the 54" last month. Whisper quiet at all speeds. Awesome fan!

For DC ceiling fans, do they still run off a standard AC wall switch or do they come with a custom wall switch?

Using one in my home office (54"). I like it a lot, but wish I could set it up for smart configurations. I have it with smart wall switches right now but can't control speed. I'd use them in other rooms of the house, but the wood color isn't a good match. The other observation is the lights do LOOK like they flicker when the fan spins on this fan vs the other fans in the house. Not sure if it's something about the blades and how they reflect (or not reflect) the light. It's subtle but it is something I do notice at times. I paid a little over $100 so this pricing is great for them. Debating buying another for at least one room to swap out a non-DC fan.

Oh and I tend to have it set at the middle speed as the high speed causes paperwork to really fly around!

From my research, the DC fans I've installed and looked into have the voltage conversions all built in so they wire up like a "normal" AC fan. You cannot use the typical wall switches that change speed as their motors are not directly wired for voltage controls by the wall switch. I have the light portion on a dimmer for mine, and that works to control light brightness, but fan speed control takes some sort of remote capability, if the fan has that kind of capability. I'd love to learn about ways to do this kind of control in other ways if anyone is aware of any!
