Are these routers really worth it vs a TP-Link Deco or Linksys Atlas Pro or Velop Mesh Router?

Just note, and I haven't dove into all the technical details, but most of these prosumer devices won't typically allow any one client to eat up every bit of available bandwidth. I have gig service, hardwired clients can get gig speeds, but wifi devices get capped around 250-300mbps individually and I think it's by design (no, I don't have any rules or any weird wifi configurations). Every unifi installation i've done has been this way too, which I why I say I think it's by design.

So while your $80 Tplink from Target will do so, these typically don't from my experience.
Incorrect, even enterprise level gear will let a single device have full bandwidth if there is not other device requesting just like prosumer or consumer level. QoS is fully adjustable in all levels with a varied degree in consumer level. This is just not that good at providing bandwidth cause its under powered...

Made the switch to a full unifi system from a mixed tplink (w7200) unifi system. More costly by far, but better coverage, speed and features.
I bought a Long Range AP from Ubiquiti and had the shittiest range I've ever seen. Worse than the Google supplied router thing. Specifically, I bought this: https://store.ui.com/us/en/collec...long-range

What the heck am I missing?

Looking to upgrade at home from an Asus router with AsusWRT, which is very stable. I need something with WiFi 6 to support wireless VR.

you're not missing anything. Ubiquiti stans just swear by it but its just overpriced, buggy, always out-of-stock networking hardware for "prosumers". My old Asus rt-ac68u was way more reliable than the UDR I had.

I thought their networking hardware was overpriced until I looked at their security camera prices. $300 for a smart doorbell?! LMAO

Hows this compare to a pfsense box? I have a HP SFF that i plan on putting pfsense on - but maybe for the right price ill go dream machine.

Already have 2 Unifi APs.
Look into firewalla too. I have solid eero mesh but looking for something for better monitoring and so far, firewalla is the best candidate. I don't want to tinker with pfsense. Now I need to do my comparism with Unify, I did not expect this to go back in stock. Too bad I just need a router, not wifi

Yup, my old RT68U was faster and better than all of my U6 LR APs… only reason I got them is because they're really the only game in town for "affordable" outdoor fully weather rated APs and I need them to jump ~800ft to cameras and whatnot.
While they do they job, they're not great at all. Luckily I'm cheap and don't pay for premium internet speeds, so they can still saturate my garbage 300Mb service when I need it 😂

But man, some devices really REALLY hate them… can't get some camera or my Sony TV to stay connected, Ecobees don't seem to like them at all either.
I use a Synology for my front end, because it's rock solid and I like the interface… speeds are better on that too, I connect there with my laptop when I need to get something from the server 😉

I don't even get a signal between a wall with window about 15 meters away. Such a waste of money.

I have 3 of the Ubiquiti Long Range Outdoor AP's (UAP-AC-M) and only get 50 to 350 Mbps on my devices. They go offline and have to be unplugged and re-adopted almost every day. So far I am not impressed. The prices are high and their stuff is buggy. The specs of this UDR are really underwhelming and out of date. For $200 it should be a lot more powerful. Also, the warranties are not great. I just buy my routers from Costco because you can return them if they don't work properly or fail prematurely.

I wanted to go Ubiquiti, but it is just too expensive and too much of a PITA.

Its good to setup an alert for AP or Access Points if your really looking cause you missed this one that I posted a few weeks back, front page deal. Will run circles around most of this Ubi stuff. The 20% back deal is still live too so cant beat the price.

What was the Front Page price of the TP-Link EAP670 | Omada WiFi 6 AX5400 Wireless 2.5G Ceiling Mount Access Point (https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-EA...B09ZV19DBP)?

Do you need a TP-Link Router to work with them?

come back to the consumer side! I bought the deco AXE5300 [costco.com] with wifi 6Eto replace the UDR+U6E and its been extremely stable and Im able to get gigabit speeds over wifi 6e. Deco just came out with an outdoor mesh point also:

As a principle, I refuse to buy TP-Link due to it's Chinese owned status. I get that most equipment are manufactured or assembled in China, but have a company that owns the entire stack is something I'd rather avoid.

Most if not all larger companies in China are affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Its still at the front page price as long as you have an amazon visa, you get 20% off the $135 price so it comes down to around $105 before tax.

No matter which brand you get, your either getting spied on by our own government or someones elses... Just about every major brand gets components from China so there is no 100% way to avoid China all together, until we start manufacturing all our own components, but then you still have our own government spying on us illegally... If I had to choose either our government or theirs to have my data, I rather it be the Chinese.
