Have this for about 2-3 years as well, best trash can I've had so far. Bought it from Costco for $55 back then. Even better that a similar and more expensive simple human one I also own.
It's a trash can dude. How does one find issues with something that's literally made for holding garbage?
The "stay open" lock is terrible, we've went through 3 of these trash cans in 2 years because we need that part to work but it keeps breaking. Other than that, it works well and nothing else has had any problems, but it does has that one issue. Luckily it's Costco, so while we cut our losses with the first one, the second one went back to the store with zero issues on a return and rebuy.

That's on you because you had a warranty you didn't use.

As with most things nowadays, once you add more bells and whistles, it becomes very clear as to where the focus and costs went in designing and manufacturing the product. These types of trash cans have lid and foot pedal. I don't have this particular trashcan but another brand of the same type which started to have problem with the lid not opening fully, pedal not working, and pedal getting stuck. So does it hold my trash? yes, but the usability of the trashcan is garbage now and therefore eventually the trashcan will end up in a trash. If you see the reviews of the simplehuman trashcan where it has motion sensing lid, people complained that the motion sensing mechanism stopped working after couple of years. Anyways, hope you get the point now as I feel like I've wasted enough time explaining this for a product meant to hold trash.
This is great if you have toddlers who like to explore garbage. Because the lid is recessed, they can't open it unless they figure out to step on it. It's also fingerprint proof, and has a switch to keep lid open (unlike the sams club one I had before) very worth it for the 60 dollar price tag at my local Costco (and boxes were in great shape unlike the OPs experience).

I've had one of these for over 3 years or so and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it - for what it's worth
