Awesome pliers way better than vice grips. The force is held on both sides of the lock instead of one side, like vice grips for anybody wondering. That's why they grip so much better. At least one of the reasons.
You're right - they're great for the right uses. But I'm still wondering what you mean by "the force is held on both sides of the lock"

I know people praise Knipex and hate on tools from harbor freight, but I have been using my Doyle cobra pliers daily for over a year for work and they are still in great shape.

Knipex uses a harder steel usually on their tools. That helps them really dig-in and grip.

If you go to Amazon and click on the 360° view and move them right and left, you will see that the jaw and handle that goes over the top of whatever you're wrenching on goes through the center of the lower jaw and handle. Sorry, I meant channel locks. Not vice grips.

The true beauty is the 4" Cobra XS, every man should have one and there is no alternative yet. For 8" and longer, the Doyle found in Harbor Freight is as good if not better for much less money. Made in Taiwan China, not mainland China.

I got a pair of knipex pliers for xmas a couple years ago and I was blown away by how much better they grip than all my other pliers.
In all your other pliers, is there a Doyle? I agree all other pliers including Klein are no compare to Knipex, but the Doyle sold in Harbor Freight is an exception. I know it is hard to believe, I myself also used to think HF stuff are all cheap and so so, but now there are quite some good stuff in HF. In addition to Doyle, the 35-pece ICON Locking Flex Head Ratchet and Bit Set is also too good to be true, for example. Seems the good ones are made in Taiwan China, not mainland China.

Project Farm: Best Pliers (TONGUE & GROOVE)? Knipex vs Fujiya, Irwin, Klein Tools, Channellock, Doyle [youtube.com]
"in my opinion, the Knipex brand is by far the best"
"if you're concerned about the budget, Doyle"
So no, the cheap Doyle pliers are not as good or better than the Knipex.

I hadn't used a Doyle. I was curious so I watched a few videos of folks testing these and other brands, and you're right. The Doyle does seem like a really good budget alternative to Knipex.

I also learned that Knipex's patent expired a few years ago which is what led to HF being able to make these pliers.

Edit: Forgot about project farm! his tests are much more robust and seem to favor the Knipex more than the others I watched.

Thanks. Doyle will suffice for me given I'm not working in the plumbing trade. Many people got brainwashed by marketing that to do job properly they need the best in class tool but that's a fallacy because majority of people are average in most things except for a few specialization and a tool won't fix a mental deficiency. Of course many can't bear this truth and just want to hear agreeable things due to their fragile ego.

Worth every extra penny you pay for this as compared to others...just the confidence of holding this in your hands allows you to do things you never thought you could do. Wont touch any plumbing without this....prior to this I had a Pittsburgh HFT one which though lasted well is meh as compared to the versatility of this one.

This is a deal? You can get them any day of the week for $35 from the vendor I use. Or sometimes less. $6 really makes that much of a difference? Very unclear to me where the $57.48 number that's crossed out comes from…
"$6 really makes that much of a difference?" You don't understand what slick deals is all about.

Some people, the price difference between hf and a known brand isn't a big deal. So it makes sense to get the well known brand than risk buying a product of unknown brand

Water Pump Pliers? Show me the last person who used a tool like this to replace a water pump. Maybe on a 1953 Chevy with the blue-flame straight six.

I sold my last water pump vintage car years ago I'm surprised they still make special tools for these.
Since I got out of the navy
