Switchbot [switch-bot.com] very recently released their latest revision (V3) of their Curtain home automation device. The new version has a couple features that make it better than the V2 hardware:
  • 10 dB quieter
  • "up to 15kg (33lbs)" for V3, compared to "up to 8kg (17lbs)" for V2
https://us.switch-bot.com/product...-curtain-3
  • $67.50 with coupon code 25CURTAIN3 and Free shipping
  • 2-pack option for $169.98 $127.49, bringing the price to $63.75 each with coupon
  • 4-pack option for $334.99 $251.24, bringing the price to $62.81 each with coupon, plus a bonus free Switchbot Hub Mini
  • Coupon valid until September 8th
Amazon is also selling the individual devices at the same price with the same coupon code, but there are no reviews yet on the product page, so Slickdeals moderators removed my previous deal with links to the amazon product. Amazon has better return policies, but no multi-pack options for bulk pricing. Edit: As of August 27, the coupon code no longer works on amazon. I'll update this if the code starts working again on amazon.

This is $10 more than a previous frontpage for the previous V2 hardware: https://slickdeals.net/f/15908554-switchbot-smart-curtain-rod-2-0-version-for-amazon-prime-members-58-90-free-shipping

I bought several of the V2 devices from the previous deal, and I found it had trouble with one of my heavier curtains. Luckily I was still in the return window when the V3 curtain was announced. The new V3 devices arrived today, and they're able to handle my heavy curtains without any issue. And in the quiet mode, it can still push all my curtains open and closed (the V2 couldn't run in quiet mode for any of my curtains without running into an issue riding over the extendable rod joint).
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

If you have a double curtain that opens from the middle, yes you need two of these. I'll grant that it's expensive at $127 for the 2-pack. But from some google searching, that is in line with other options that require more installation and hardware. Even the DIY motorized blind videos I found had hardware costs over $100.

As these don't require any tools, I'm happy with the ease of installation. And since they're bluetooth and not wifi, the rechargeable battery lasts a long time (8 months) and is local-only by nature. I don't like having cloud-based IoT devices, so most of my home automation is z-wave, or wifi devices on a segregated network that can't talk with my main network.
They have something similar for blinds, if that's what you mean. https://us.switch-bot.com/product...blind-tilt
No, you don't need the hub. You can use the switchbot app which can connect to the curtains directly via bluetooth.

The hub is probably useful for adding it to alexa or homekit, etc. And it might also let you use the switchbot app remotely, though I haven't tried the hub yet.

Home Assistant can connect to the V2 curtains via bluetooth without needing the hub as well. I found that the V3 revision hasn't been added yet, which is a bummer, but it was only just released. The switchbot app has the same config and controls for V2 and V3, so I imagine it won't take long for the community to add V3 support with Home Assistant.

Seems like you know what you're talking about so do you know if this works with home assistant?
The V3 curtain bot isn't supported natively yet. But support is coming soon, as there are already code changes in the pipeline. You can install the patches manually if you want support now; I did that yesterday, and the curtains work in my home assistant setup now. Otherwise, you'll need to wait for some amount of time before it's officially supported like the V2 curtain bots.

Not quite... to quote back to the future II, you have to use your hands? You have the hub, why not integrate with Alexa and use voice commands? I have a DIY roller shade that consists of a cheap(er) roller shade motor and special tube/rod and a little IR to wifi doohickey from amazon. I just took a manual shade of the same width and attached it to the special rod. I now have a voice activated shade that is great. I'm using IFTT app, unfortunately I used to have 3 options, their free version now limits you to 2 commands/routines.
Mine have been a nightmare. I need to recalibrate every other day. I don't mind the eyesore of the beads (we also have grommets on blackout curtains), but they simply don't work. One of mine will reach the end of the rod and keep whirring
