I have tried 3 different versions of Dell G15's in the past 2 years thanks to deals from here. All 3 returned because of the same issue, unacceptable overheating. It's a shame because they are beautiful to look at and the performance is solid for the first 15 minutes after a cold boot. I almost talked myself into keeping them trying to convince myself to overlook the issue because of the price for the performance and screen. The top of the keyboard was clocking in at over 200 degrees F. I sent photos to Dell every time. While still having the 2nd unit, Dell issued a firmware update that included adjustments to prevent overheating. It did not work. It would be okay for apps and games that do not use the GPU, but for that case you can spend less money, or same money, for a better screen and/or larger screen. 😞

I solved this issue by repasting with PTM 7950. Dropped from 96c to 70c.
But I know not everyone's comfortable with repasting, and ideally it should be sufficient right out of the box.
Some of the VRMs were exposed too, not touching the heatsink. The thermal pads dell used weren't installed correctly. It's insane to pay so much for something and need to take it apart to fix performance. Surprisingly it runs cooler on my lap now, I'm guessing since the heat no longer pools as much
I've done PTM on other laptops and the results weren't as dramatic but in every case it helped

The last time I repasted a laptop, it was a Dell G5 back in 2019. The heat was so bad that even after pasting, it did not help much. Ended up sold it and bought a Legion 7. That is why I am shocked by your result. That is beyond impressive. It also tells me Dell has not learned anything all these years.

I cannot get this deal to work. I got the 10% off and the code provided only gives an additional 2% off, so its still over $1300. I was hoping to buy this for my son. Any other codes or way to obtain this price?

It should have been moved to the Dead Deals forum a few days after it was posted because that's when it went back up in price. I reported it dead so hopefully it gets moved soon. I'm not sure if you're using your phone or computer to access SD, either way alerts can be set up so your notified if any threads about the items you wanted to be alerted are started.
