How do you turn on the laptop without taking it out?
For MBP, you just simply put in sleep. For Alienware , there's an option in the BIOS settings to turn on the device whenever you plugged it into power. I just unplug then plug it.

Dont most laptops end up throttling hard if you work with the lid closed nowadays?
I find that my 16" Macbook Pro M1 somehow manages to cool really well so it never gets too hot nor do I experience any drop in performance with lid closed. My Lenovo Thinkpad, on the other hand, gets extremely hot and needs external cooling. To be fair, my Thinkpad is a monster and is spec'd to the moon. But it needs to live on a fan to avoid overheating when using any intensive software. It also never wakes from sleep with closed lid despite adjusting that setting in BIOS, so this laptop stand seems like it caters more to Mac users than PC laptop users.

Why?
Just stick the laptop on a table like a normal person.

Not if you put your coffee cup, cup of pens, stack of TPS reports and bowl of paperclips and other oddities on your laptop. What could you possibly put on top of this verticle laptop? Your dignity?

You need to learn to maximize your stacked space. Then you will truly by zen and one with maximum desk efficiency

Is it really any more ridiculous than sticking your expensive laptop with fragile display into a metal clamp that can dent/bend the lid and damage the screen (see reviews, btw), and also potentially be knocked over with a stray hand movement?

I think you're both overestimating the pressure these put on laptops (so as to damage the display) and underestimating their stability. I have my work laptop sitting in a plastic one of these, near the edge of my work desk, and a Tab s8 Ultra and Galaxy Book 3 Ultra sitting in a double slotted metal one on my personal desk. No issues with damaged screens, and I remove/reinsert them daily. On the other hand, I have a rambunctious young cat, which is far worse than a stray hand movement, and I've never been concerned that these would be knocked over. With the grippy feet and wide base, they're stable.

How?

I'm at my desk using my laptop. Then I stick it in this waste of space thing? Why not just leave the laptop where you were using it?
