Bought stainless steel first gen years ago, didn't wear it for months, didn't charge but Apple logo flashed and faded away red.

Yup. I would only recommend people buying from Costco at the moment because of the 3 month return policy incase 2nd gen is a big upgrade.

Have to imagine the lowest we'll see the 1st gen is $660-680 region once 2ng gen drops from the typical retailers trying to liquidate stock. Doubt Costco will go any lower than this though.

Tempting price but I'd like to see what the new model will offer. I'm also worried this is overkill for a person who camps 2-3 times a year.

Durability and battery life alone is worth it. The glass is hard to crack unlike standard model. The titanium doesn't dent or chip easily too. 3-4 day battery life for me.

Ultra 2 is not coming out this year. I have used this and the regular Apple Watches. Battery life and screen size is a bit plus for me l.
