Got the B&H deal last time. Good brightness but HDR performance is not good. SDR is excellent. But most streaming movies are HDR but turning HDR off on my FireTV will narrow the contrast range too much. HDR can't be disabled on projector. Turning HDR off on projector only turning off processing so it looks terrible. Currently looking at turning off via HDMI EDID information. 3D movies can't be streamed, only via blu-ray player.

Bought the uhz50 when it first came out and have quite some time with it. Very pleased with longevity, power consumption efficiencies, and incredible color/contrast without HDR needed. In fact don't use HDR it upsets the picture on any consumer projector south of 5-10K.

It averages 10-12 hours per day hooked up at an apple TV mainly playing background images. Use a source apple tv, ps5, etc which allows HDR to be turned off from the source.

I haven't seen any noticeable lumen loss that I can tell after all of this usage. We run it in eco mode most of the time as it barely changes light output but makes it last even longer than it already does.

For another $200, I'll go with the Z50 from Best Buy. Gaming may happen but this is a movie night on the screeened porch projector, and with the curtains drawn you still have to wait for almost full darkness to really get a good image with my current 1080 bulb projector. You can see it without the curtains during the day, but it doesn't "pop" until it is really dark... and by then I'm asleep. Ok... passed out. Whatever.

If I can see a fall football game more crisply with the sun peeking through the cracks, that will be a bonus. I'll try the Xbox X and the latest MSFT Flight Sim thing out there. Might be cool at 100". Looking forward to some late October scary movies.

Thanks for the lead, OP!

Anyone have tips for keeping the cobwebs off of a screened porch, ceiling mount projector?

Hmm. Concerning cobwebs. I'll just get a clip top container... rubbermaid style. Mod the lid to attach to the ceiling drop-mount. When the movie is over slide the base up from underneath and snap the clips. No creepy-crawlies or dust can get in. I already do that with all the remotes and controllers. Might use Flex-Seal... not sure. Might not have time.

How does this UHZ45 or the UHZ50 compare to the Epson 5050UB?

Did this uhz50 give you any issues? I see it only has one year warranty. I am worried about its reliability.

No issues at all so far and based on the high usage this thing gets I expected there would be some brightness degradation but nope. That may because we've been running it in eco mode but the lumen output is so solid for our usage it felt worth it to keep it in eco to extend longevity.

Love the nearly instant start up of the lasers vs the typical bulb warmup time. Small things!

Get yourself an Apple TV 4K. You can globally turn off HDR. Netflix and Amazon Prime have SDR 4K streams for their shows. Disney plus only has HDR 4K streams so if you turn off HDR you will receive a 1080p feed.

You leave your projector on all day playing background images?

This article sums it up nicely. https://www.cnet.com/tech/home-en...-oriented/

I have the Epson. I have a 2.35:1 screen and need the motorized lens memory. Epson of course is more expensive.
