The build and the promotional pictures on this product seem specifically directed towards theft. Showing them in a dirty bag on the ground. Showing a guy in a silhouette cutting some chain. This looks like project mayhem promotional swag! Don't get me wrong, bolt cutters have their place, but sheesh, this seems built for steelin!

I want to ask what size of rebar but that might be irrelevant because these are only 14" long. You're going to have to apply a tremendous amount of force on these in order to cut any size of rebar. Sure rebar is soft mild steel but...it's still quite a bit of metal that you are displacing. It probably would cut one piece of it with enough force...but unless you have a lot of upper body strength/weight and only have a couple cuts I wouldn't even consider these particular ones for it. Get a cut-off wheel for a grinder or use a hacksaw OR buy a bigger/longer pair. The Amazon reviews are not the best for this either...it might be good for cutting chain link fence or wire but you'll never regret getting a bigger pair, unless physically carrying it is a concern.

I found this segment from an article online:

"If you'll be using it frequently or for long periods of time, look for one with cushioned handles and/or an ergonomic design. With these factors in mind, here are some suggested sizes: For light duty Cutting occasional small pieces of up to 3/8″ diameter rebar: 14″ cutters will do the job nicely.

For medium duty Cutting thicker pieces of up to 1/2″ diameter rebar: 18″ cutters will give you more power and durability. For heavy-duty Cutting thick pieces of up to 5/8″ diameter rebar: 24″ cutters are your best bet for tackling big jobs."

Added bonus - think how many free things you can get with this? Just kidding - I got a cheap set of these for free after the idiot that used it cut off a bike lock in a parking garage and ran. His loss, my gain. Although he got away with a really nice bicycle.

I love the foldable design of these, I've always been eye balling the model that Menards carries. Good if you have limited trunk space or a small storage compartment where you want to store/carry them.

Another point - a big pair can do what a smaller pair can do, but not the other way around. I used a pair in a farm store to cut some fairly large chain and YEAH I thought I was going to shoot a piece of chain across the store while simultaneously breaking or pinching off a hand or finger. Granted they were absolute junk and I should have asked an employee to do it but I'm stubborn and time is money! I couldn't believe how winded I was after applying the force...I think I made 3-4 cuts. Anyway, food for thought on this purchase. Menard's (if close to you) has an 18" pair for around 30 bucks...def worth 10 bucks instead of struggling. They have a 24" pair for $18.99 which are the traditional type. Anyway good luck on whatever you decide!

The deal might be good, but this product looks like hot garbage. Tons of failure points, and weak construction based on the reviews I saw. Could be user error of course, but I wouldn't expect these bolt cutters to cut anything routinely besides soft metals, less than 1/2" thick.

Compact is not a good thing when it comes to bolt cutters. Unless you want to carry cheater bars with you too. Leverage is everything with these.

Unless you're using them to cut a small lock (I emphasize the word small) do you want going to be cutting much of anything with them. My first time ever using them, due to the softness and weak points of the folding arms, they just break.

Lol, I think Fakespot deserves an "F." As an FYI, I own a pair of these in the 18" size. These rarely go on sale, but I picked up a deal on an Amazon Warehouse return. I will admit that I haven't used these to steal any bikes, yet -- but did play around with them and they are made very nice. The folding handle design (which is patented) is simple, but ingenious - and those red clasp things you see are made of metal (some people appear to think they might be plastic - they're not). The fit and finish on these bolt cutters is a couple steps above anything you'll find at HFT, for ex (unless they come out with an ICON line of bolt cutters at HFT).
