Crazy how price elevated printers still are 3.5 years into the pandemic. Pre-2020 this was probably a $300 printer.

I simply think it's ridiculous to sell a printer that doesn't fit a ream of paper in the tray. Like where am I supposed to put the other half stack of paper next to it? Just design better products.

Sure there is - an "optional" 550 sheet tray (see 3rd pic on Amazon) - they know how to nickel and dime you and rip you off on everything including ink that's so far is not supported by third party

You'd think its secret sauce but its not. Check alibaba/ali express.. I think its the crg069 toner powder... you'd think with all the incentive there is in 3rd party toner not to have to buy $100 cartridge too soon... by refilling. Canon uses a higher grade toner than brother, though. Just be aware of either stock or firmware updates that could render 3rd party cartridge chips useless. Seems to be a theme..and I agree on a $500 printer you should have free reign on aftermarket supplies.

With some of their other printers they have a lot of unhappy users.

I have the MF733CDW (two gen behind) bought in 2020 for $289, and the only improvement they have made is better DRM so you cant use TP toner. The other improvement is to disable starter cart resetting, and made the starter toner cover fewer pages. I refill mine with LD products which is as good as OEM (IMHO) for a little over $100 for the high cap ones. OEM would cost like $600. 046h, go check it out.

Note the wifi modules on these SUCK. I had to repurpose an old wifi router as an AP client to achieve reliability. Not sure if they fixed it in this model (I am sure that wasn't in the budget) but be aware of this known generational issue if you purchase one. So check out reviews.

So to me until a printer has cracked toner DRM it is owned by Canon not me even though I paid for it. Sounds like a deal, eh...

Care to provide a proper research where Canon uses higher quality toner than Brother and by how much? I'm certainly open to knowledge. I have never seen an issue ever w/ Brother toner and until this Canon have used dozens of Brother printers in my biz, so it would be good to read the research (if only for curiosity).

There are lots of reviews claiming canon photo prints are more vibrant in color than brother color laser. Also, the toner powder looks brighter than brother color toner.. but only like 5-10%...

Fair enough without substantiation, that may be true but there are always paid shills. I can handle a few percent tho. I get a lot more sticky on my photo printers where it really matters (to me).

In any case my main concern is DRM and the hundreds of conscript $$$ that comes with it and I am only using TP toner so OEM toner and marketing is too rich for my blood anyways.

I actually chose brother color laser last go round, mainly becuse it was $289 vs $399 and up for anything else.. now color lasers with dual docu scanner feeder are about $500 and up. Brother recently pushed a firmware to reject 3rd party chipped cartridges on the mfc-l3xxx series and there was immediate pushback by consumers archiving the original firmware. Also for whatever reason, canon color laser toners are more expensive even for 3rd pary toner. Brother still remains the least expensive cost per color page using cheap 3rd party cartridges that get refilled a few times before disposal/recycling

Thanks for the update on firmware. Sounds like Brother is joining the ranks of printer companies that want to go out of business with outdated biz models. I will be very careful moving forward now on all printer models.

The mfc-l3770 is 4y old with no refresh.. wifi 6e or other features could have been implemented for next to nothing
