Maybe I'm just paranoid but it seems like a baby hazard to have the fridge as a separate unit.

It should be fine. Frig should be just slightly higher (or about the same) than kids height.

Good price with the refrigerator but the IKEA DUKTIG ($99) with microwave and light up stovetop is better in my opinion. It has a microwave which my toddler loves to "use. " Also great/thoughtful build quality with little hooks for cookware
