Correct. The combo touch is the one with the detachable keyboard. It's the one I have and I would be annoyed with not being able to remove it.
The case just makes your iPad too bulky and heavy. The whole thing combined weighs more than 3lb, or equivalent to a MacBook or most thin and light Windows laptops.
What I DO recommend is the Smart Keyboard. Yeah the typing experience isn't amazing, but it's very lightweight, only adding a couple oz while being both a tablet stand and a front cover. So you can use your iPad like an iPad.
And iOS doesn't really lend itself to a great touchpad experience. I'd just use the screen as a mouse for 99% of what you need.
I use my iPad as a laptop replacement at this point, and I don't need anything more than the Smart Keyboard.
You can find those for < $100 online via eBay or Amazon. I'd go that route unless you ABSOLUTELY need a trackpad.
Combo Touch. I have it and love it. It's $187 now on Amazon, which is 18% off. I was going to go the Apple keyboard route, but the inability to remove (or fold back completely) the keyboard was a deal breaker.

This is exactly what I did. I almost went for the Logitech when I got the iPad 10 last month but since I found the Magic Keyboard refurbished for the same price, I went with that hands down. I'm really satisfied with its performance. Only thing is I use it laying down a lot for leisure and would prefer that it has more stability to stay in the up position because it lops over and closes too often (minor flaw) but overall I'm satisfied with the Magic Keyboard.
