Boasting the style and massive sound Eddie Van Halen is known for, the Wolfgang WG Standard Exotic features all-new exotic wood options for players with distinguished taste.
The Wolfgang WG Standard Exotic Spalted Maple offers a basswood body with special "comfort cut" forearm contour for maximum playing ease, along with attractive masked-off natural body binding and a distinctive bocote top. Designed for comfortable playability and speed, this stylish axe also features an oiled finish on the back of the neck and a 12"-16" compound radius baked maple fingerboard with rolled edges, 22 jumbo frets and black dot inlays.
Dual EVH Wolfgang humbucking pickups mounted directly to the body increase vibration transfer, resulting in sustain for days on end. Two black knurled control knobs have been dialed-in to Van Halen's exacting specifications-the smooth-feeling 500k pots make it easy to find a unique sound while retaining the crisp high-end sparkle of the Wolfgang pickups. The EVH-branded Floyd Rose Special bridge and R2 locking nut consistently keep the instrument in tune through the deepest whammy dives and horse whinnies.
Decked out for playing performance and comfort, the Wolfgang WG Standard Exotic Bocote is available in a Natural finish with black headstock and black chrome hardware.

Looking at them on reverb, that Bocote can be beautiful.. or ugly.
Think I'll roll the dice and hope I get a good looking one. I have VIP Pro at Adorama, so can return if not.

FWIW, I've had a fantastic experience with Adorama customer service after UPS busted up a shipment. They sent me a replacement with free next day shipping. My return was refunded within a week or so of shipping it back.
These are Made in Indonesia and have Floyd Rose Specials. The Wolfgang Special feels more premium being Made in Mexico with EVH branded Floyd Rose. I've played both and I'd hold out for a Special if it was me. But these do have the same pickups and overall feel.
FYSA, the green quilt top standard is also $499 (link below), doesn't look like any specials are on sale though , where the main difference that I care about is the Floyd upgrade from a Special to 1000 series.
If you are a beginning guitarist, the Standards is a great starting point for your first guitar. If you are a seasoned player, the Specials are great, well built with quality workmanship although they cost much more than Standards and do not go on sale as often as Standards.
I don't know. For some reason I can't get into the wood grain on the body of these guitars. Reminds me of my grandma's kitchen cabinets in her 1970s doublewide.

This is a Fender brand made in Indonesia, which is China Lite. Informed is empowered!
EVH/Fender models are made in Mexico. They also make a few in Corona, California which is their top of the line models and highest priced of all EVH guitars. EVH/Fender recently announced that some EVH guitars will be made in Japan. https://guitar.com/news/gear-news...-wolfgang/

If the difference is like $200 anyway, I'd just get one of these and put a Schaller Lockmeister on it. They're the OEM for Floyd Rose and make their Original series. The Lockmeister is a drop-in replacement for Originals. I think I can still snag them from a supplier for around that much

This is not the signature series. This is the cheap series made mostly in indonesia.
